Ponting determined to come good

Ricky Ponting does not gloss over the fact that he has been a veritable dud with the bat on Indian soil but the Australian believes he can break the jinx this time and erase the lone blot from an otherwise impeccable career. Ponting averages a pathetic 12.28 in India, a jinxed land for the Aussie captain where runs simply stop flowing from his otherwise prolific blade and his mojo deserts him. "You are spot on," Ponting said here today, when reminded of his dismal record on Indian soil.

Ponting tells of request to drop complaint

NAGPUR (Agencies): Ricky Ponting has said he was approached by a senior member of the India touring party during the acrimonious Sydney Test and asked to drop Australia’s complaint against Harbhajan Singh. Harbhajan was alleged to have racially abused Andrew Symonds during the game and Ponting said that even before Harbhajan’s three-Test ban was handed down it was clear the matter would not be straightforward. Ponting’s recollections are revealed in his Captain’s Diary 2008, an extract of which has been published in the Weekend Australian. “On the night after we made our on-field report about Harbhajan, I had a phone conversation with a senior member of the Indian touring party, who asked me straight to drop the complaint,” Ponting wrote.

Indian Flag Placed on the Moon

The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) are justifiably proud of their latest achievement. In an historic event, the Indian space program managed to place the Indian tricolour on the Moons surface on November 14, 2008, anniversary of the birth of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, India'sfirst Prime Minister. The Indian flag was painted on the sides of the Moon Impact Probe (MIP), one of the 11 payloads of Chandrayaan-1 spacecraft, that successfully hit the lunar surface 8:31 pm IST. This is the first Indian built object to reach the surface of the moon. The point of MIPs impact was near the Moons South Polar Region.

Indian techies in the US still optimistic

While the gruesome murders of two Indian families in the US recently in the wake of economic slowdown have raised questions about the safety of jobs of persons of Indian origin working in the country, an interaction with a few Indian families living and working in the US shows that there is no pessimism over what the future holds for them. For those Indians who are frugal in their ways of life and who swear by the virtues of hard work and keenness to improve their skill -sets, the economic recession does not look like the end of the road.
