mendis centrestage final takes
Two days ago Sri Lanka had an opportunity to knock India - a more dangerous side than Pakistan - out of the competition, but they reduced their chances of winning by resting Chaminda Vaas and Ajantha Mendis. The move was obviously to keep Vaas fresh, and to prevent the Indians from getting first-hand experience of Mendis in case India made it to the final. As it turned out, India chased down 309 to progress to the title clash, ensuring that Sri Lanka go into the final having lost their last match, and that too to the eventual finalists.

On the site is an image of an "unidentified being" released by Square Enix to play a part in the upcoming game Final Fantasy XIII. Unlike the "Prince" from Versus and "Lightning" from XIII, this image has so far given everyone nothing but grief in uncovering its purpose or identity. Many fans however have their suspicions of Kitase's and Nomura's mysterious being. Could this "being" be JENOVA from Final Fantasy VII?

Three years after it came out in Japan, Square Enix will release Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII International as a value priced Ultimate Hits game on September 4. Don't get envious yet. Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII International is in actuality just the North America version of Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII. When Square Enix localized the game Vincent learned how to run faster, got a limit break item to transform instead of using his MP, and had a number of post game Extra Missions. The catch was online play via PlayOnline found in the original Japanese release was removed from the game.

''A new patch has added some new bosses to Final Fantasy XI, including the somewhat ridiculously resilient Pandemonium Warden. A guild named Beyond the Limitation attempted to take down the Warden, but had to quit after 18 Hours of combat. One of the guild leaders reported, "People were passing out and getting physically ill. We decided to end it before we risked turning into a horrible new story about how video games ruin people's lives."

Final Cut Studio and Compressor are fabulous tools for producing streaming video, but the workflow can be confusing. For example, which de-interlacing option triggers Compressor’s vaunted Optical Flow technology (and which doesn’t)? How does editing in a custom Final Cut Pro setting or encoding with a QuickTime Export Component impact your options in Compressor’s Geometry Pane? Beyond workflow issues, does Compressor’s output quality match that of other Mac-encoding tools such as Sorenson Squeeze or Telestream Episode Pro, or could producers improve quality by using these third-party tools?

Microsoft fired off the shot heard round the world today at their E3 press conference when it was announced that the long time Sony exclusive Final Fantasy franchise would be making its way to Microsoft’s Xbox 360. The chaos that ensued from the ’Final Fantasy Exclusivity Crisis’ was evident across hundreds of gaming message boards. Square-Enix was branded a turncoat and sell out. ’FailStation’ doomsday proclamations were made. Hundreds of angry fanboys frantically scrawled out flames and flinged insults. This is a defining day in the 7th generation console war, there is absolutely no way denying this. However, is it possible that this announcement and its effect on the PS3 could be over exaggerated? Is Sony dead in the water, and the PS3 rendered a $400 paper weight, as some have said?

NASA has put a final date on the shuttle program: May 31 2010. That day, the shuttle will launch for the last time, putting an end to 29 years of amazing missions, two of them with tragic endings. The final will be STS-133, in which Endeavour "will carry critical spare components that will be placed on the outside of the station," including new communication antennas, a gas tank, spare parts for giant space robot Dextre, and the coolest of them all: "micrometeoroid debris shields." I don't know about you, but I hope these involve invisible fields or laser micro-turrets or some kind of plasma generator. They also released details for the remaining flights of Endeavour, Discovery, and Atlantis:

They've already got a few would-be groups online, including one who takes the open source a step further — soliciting jokes from listeners and combining submissions into a final product."
