LONDON (AFP): West Indies star Marlon Samuels faces a two-year suspension after being found guilty of corruption. The West Indies Cricket Board’s decision to ban the batsman after finding he had illegally colluded with a bookmaker was rubber-stamped at an International Cricket Council (ICC) meeting on Tuesday. Samuels, 27, was allegedly caught on tape by police passing match-related information on to a bookmaker during a series in India in February last year. After the matter was picked up by the ICC’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit, the world governing body asked the WICB to conduct a probe under the terms of their code of conduct.

(Prudent Press Agency)--Cricket is the passion of all Brits. Playing cricket has been a well-known tradition in all English homes from the beginning of 18th century. English cricket was a part of leisure as well as English tea; playing it was considered a status of symbol, an exhibition of good taste. The announcements of cricket tournaments were often published in English newspapers: the pictures of the time depicted the players dressed in white shirts, white breeches and cylinders, elegantly leaning towards the cricket ball.

If the principal reason for the moves towards banning Zimbabwe Cricket is the political situation in the country, then I do not believe that a ban is justified. Cricket and politics should be kept separate as far as possible, unless politics interferes to such an extent that the cricketing body is not a good ICC cricket citizen.
