Fat club? Love handles? Physical peak? City in pre-season!

It may be the return to pre-season training (wow! already? - ed) but Gary Johnson says the condition of the players this year, is marked improvement from 12 months ago...

I think it's fair to say we lacked a proven goalscorer last season, but at least we found the back of the net. The last three pre-season games have seen a goal drought of worrying proportions.

Now I realise pre-season stands for little. The results don't matter, it's the performances but when you've not scored in 3 games - two of which were against teams who we should really have hit the back against - then you start to get a bit jittery. Now, let's not get this out of context. On Friday night we had seven players missing who would be in a starting line up and shortly afterwards lost Stephen McPhee which means we effectively were playing our second string. However, that still doesn't mean we shouldn't have done better against Shrewsbury and at least scored a goal.

Verizon Business Helps E-Retailers Gear Up for Holiday Crunch

'Tis Already the Season for Online Retailers to Plan and Prepare BASKING RIDGE, N.J., Aug. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- If you think the holiday season starts earlier and earlier for consumers, you're right. That's why smart online retailers are already planning and preparing for this year's seasonal e-commerce crunch. This year, more shoppers than ever are expected to go online to do their holiday gift buying. According to industry sources, online holiday shopping sales exceeded $29 billion in 2007, a jump of 19 percent over the previous year. September and October are critical months for online retailers to check their list of preparations. With that in mind, Verizon Business offers e-retailers six key information technology (IT) tips to help make the most of the busiest time of the year: 1.

The area given to Small Press has not changed. With regard to Artists Alley this year we are able to accommodate 210 artists, up 43 artists from last year when we had 167 spaces. And I should point out that the 167 was up 20 people from the year previous where we accommodated 147. And I will state emphatically that no publisher, or any exhibitor, for that matter, has been asked to reduce their booth size to make way for Hollywood. Or any other exhibitor. Each year the floor changes in configuration. Some exhibitors hope to expand their space, some exhibitors reduce their space and still others elect not to return for any number of reasons. This is true this year as well. When additional space becomes available, we try to accommodate requests of long time exhibitors while still keeping the floor dynamic by welcoming new exhibitors.

RadioShack (RSH) NewsBite - RSH Rises With Electronics Stores

RadioShack (RSH) opened at $12.27. So far today the stock has hit a low of $12.27 and a high of $13.09. RSH is now trading at $12.89, up 0.63 (5.14%). After hitting a one-year high of $34.98 last July, the stock hit a one-year low of $11.58 last week. Shares of RSH are rising this morning with other elecronics stores this morning, as lower oil prices seem to be easing investors' worries that energy costs will cut into consumer spending. Technical indicators for RSH are bearish and steady, while S&P gives the stock a neutral 3 STARS (out of 5) hold rating. If you’re looking for a hedged play on this stock, consider an October bull-put credit spread below the $10 range. RSH hasn’t been below $11.50 at all in the past year and has shown support around $11.

Digg This: Google Eyeing Digg?

Maybe it’s just the summer heat getting to people, but TechCrunch swears that this time it’s for real, and Google (GOOG) is on the verge of buying Digg for “around $200-million.” Yes, this is pretty much the same rumor that was going around earlier this year, but Mike Arrington says the talks are back on (apparently Marissa Meyer lost interest in the company for a while).

iTunes K-12 launches with resources for students, parents

Since its launch a little over a year ago, iTunes U has grown into a large collection of educational material and resources from over 70 colleges and universities worldwide. Yesterday, at the National Education Computing Conference in San Antonio, Texas, iTunes K-12 was announced as a service on the iTunes Store, similar to that of iTunes U, but aimed at primary and secondary education. "K-12 on iTunes U" is a modest start in comparison to what iTunes U has become, but with 11 entities already, it's a start.

Multiple Return Values in Java

IconToday was one of those days when I wished Java would support multiple return values. I had to develop a rather CPU-intensive algorithm which would compute a solution for a knotty constraint problem. Having a solution alone is sometimes not enough and you also need to add some parameters which measure the quality of the computed outcome. Most of these accompanying parameters can or have to be computed within the algorithm itself, but Java allows you to return only one value either an object or a primitive type. People working with Lisp, MATLAB or Perl, just to mention a few, don't have a problem like this at all. Functions supporting multiple return values is already implemented at the language level and frameworks make heavy use of this.

First Oort Cloud Object May Have Been Discovered

SpuriousLogic alerts us to the discovery of what may be the first object ever discovered from the inner edge of the Oort cloud. 2006 SQ372 was found on images from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. Its discoverers theorize that this comet-like object and the planetoid Sedna, first spotted in 2003, might be Oort denizens. Sedna is in a stable orbit but 2006 SQ372 has been perturbed by the gravity of Uranus and/or Neptune, simulations suggest, so its orbital history is unknowable. 2006 SQ372 will travel out to 1,600 AU on this orbit, making it the most distant solar-system object yet found. The Oort cloud is believed to extend ten times that far, or about a quarter of a light-year. "Theoretical models of the formation of the Oort Cloud predict that it should also host a massive inner part, but comets from this region never make it near Earth.

Filing S corporation status too late

I started a business this year and elected S corporation status too late. The IRS told me this year I will be taxed as a C corporation, but next year they will accept the S corporation status. I am expecting to have a loss of about $10,000 to $15,000 this year.

Create a Political Election Page

As I write this the 2008 US Presidential election looms closely on the horizon. This is my main reason for writing this at this time, but I made it more broad so you can use these ideas for any kind of election page you may be creating, either now or in the future. Presidents are not the only people elected to office and so this was written to be relevant for any election you may be interested in writing about.
