PCB sacks cricket coach Geoff Lawson

The Pakistan Cricket Board has sacked the national cricket team’s coach Geoff Lawson here on Friday. The former Australian pace-man had assumed the position of coach just 15 months before, the board's spokesman said. "Geoff Lawson has been sacked. He has been given three months' severance pay," PCB spokesman Raza Rashid told media. The move comes just three days after new PCB chairman Ijaz Butt said that Lawson's contract would not be renewed next year, on the grounds that Pakistan had "no utility" for him. The 50-year-old Lawson was appointed Pakistan coach in July last year after Pakistan's first-round defeat in the World Cup in the Caribbean in March.

Former UBS chief forgoes bonus

Peter Wuffli, the former chief executive of UBS, has revealed he turned down SFr12m ($10m) in bonus entitlements out of solidarity with the stricken Swiss bank. The move, the first of its kind at a big casualty of the credit crisis, will raise pressure on other former top UBS executives to follow suit. Marcel Ospel, architect of UBS’s expansion into US investment banking and one of Switzerland’s highest-paid managers until he resigned last April, has faced intense public criticism. Wuffli’s decision will draw attention to others, including John Costas, the American behind UBS’s disastrous decision to create an in-house hedge fund, and Stephan Haeringer and Marco Suter, Ospel’s former deputies on the board. The move by Wuffli, who left in July 2007 just before the credit crisis, followed efforts by UBS to persuade former managers

Pakistan hope Lawson proves to be farsighted

To want to take charge of Pakistan, it has often been said that a coach would need to be a farsighted individual, but instead the country’s cricket board has chosen a qualified optometrist. Geoff Lawson, the former Australia fast bowler, will succeed the late Bob Woolmer after accepting the offer of a two-year contract from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which selected him ahead of Dav Whatmore and Richard Done, his fellow Australians. Lawson’s first assignment will be to oversee the ICC World Twenty20 in September, followed by home series against South Africa and Australia, with a tour to India in between.

XP and renown bonuses for WAR transfer servers

Now they're offering limited time server bonuses for players making their trek onto the offered servers. The bonus itself is a 20% rested boost to experience and renown gain. Want to leave WoW for Conan or Warhammer? Good luck

Despite his rather stoic delivery during an Activision Blizzard conference call earlier today, Blizzard's Mike Morhaime undoubtedly took some thrill reciting the following statistics relating to players trying to leave World of Warcraft for the competition: Of the players who cited Funcom's Age of Conan as their reason for leaving WoW, a whopping 68% returned to Azeroth; of the players who cited Warhammer: Age of Reckoning as the impetus behind their departure, a less overwhelming (but similarly impressive) 46% of players ultimately leapt right back into Blizzard's no-doubt strategically receptive embrace.

No contractions

With my first son, I was had extreme water retention but it was a very happy pregnancy. He was due on August 20th, but my due date came and went. I received a letter from the Maternity Ward with an appointment for Sept 6th if there was no sign of the baby! I happened to mention this to my community midwife at a routine appointment and she was horrified. Before I knew it, I had an appointment for a membrane sweep. My sister was obsessed with my baby being born in September for the school cut off so at my appointment I expressed concern that the baby would be born at the very end of August so the midwife agreed to do the sweep the next day. Upon my return the sweep was done and the midwife was dubious of the results so I was booked in for induction on Sept 1st.
