The occasion is another attempt to hold a women's Twenty20 following a men's domestic match after last year's day was washed out. The highlight of a miserable week for the England cricket team, a week that has seen the morality and ability of the one-day side questioned, took place in Brighton yesterday morning. It was the sight of a fit Andrew Flintoff (right) running up the hill at Hove and bowling for Lancashire in the LV Championship First Division match against Sussex. Flintoff has had his moments off the field but very few modern cricketers encapsulate what is meant by the "Spirit of Cricket" better than him. Flintoff plays hard but fair and it is difficult to believe England's appeal for the run out of New Zealand's Grant Elliott would have been carried out at The Oval on Wednesday had he been playing. England need Flintoff back, not just to bowl hostile overs, give the ball an almighty smack and take breathtaking catches at slip but to provide the dressing r

(RTTNews) - Video game maker Electronic Arts Inc. (ERTS) said Monday morning that it has extended its tender offer to acquire all the outstanding common shares of rival Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (TTWO) until June 16, 2008. The extension of the tender offer by the company for the third time comes even as shares of Take-Two trade higher than the offer price and the number of Take-Two shares tendered to the offer has declined. In response to Electronic Arts' announcement, Take-Two said that the recommendation of its board of directors to stockholders not to tender their shares to the offer remains unchanged. Take-Two, the publisher of the "Grand Theft Auto" series, has been resisting the hostile $2 billion buyout.

LONDON (Agencies): England must "move on to the next level" if they are going to compete with South Africa later this season, according to Kevin Pietersen. The South Africa-born batsman, who controversially turned his back on the Proteas in order to pursue an international career with England, believes the team must start to improve this season if they are to have a chance of wresting back the Ashes next year from Australia. England won the 2005 Ashes series on home soil 2-1 but were then overwhelmed 5-0 in Australia in 2006-07. "We are going to have to (move on to the next level), if we are going to beat South Africa," Pietersen told reporters at Lord's here on Monday. "That's going to be the toughest series we have had for a long time, apart from Australia.

It's like firing pea-shooters against cannons” was a phrase in common usage in the 1980s as a generation of England batsmen ducked and weaved against the great West Indies fast bowlers, while England hit back with a battery of medium-pacers. I am not sure what the batting equivalent to being outgunned is, but, whatever it is, it applies to this forthcoming series between England and New Zealand. Perhaps it is enough to say that England have good 'uns and New Zealand have, well, not-so-good 'uns and that there exists a chasm in class that should prevent New Zealand from adding to their four Test wins in this country.
