Warner Bros. Delays Dark Knight Piracy for 38 Hours, Deems it Success

Warner Bros. didn't want to lose one penny off of the precious early box office gross for The Dark Knight (one that traditionally favors Hollywood in the split over movie theaters), so they reportedly spent 6 months developing an anti-piracy plan to keep the film off filesharing sites for as long as possible. And through a highly regimented flow of tracking and distribution that included staggering reel delivery to individual theaters (so that no one had the entire film for too long), Warner Bros. was able to delay online piracy for a whole 38 hours. Their president of distribution explains why this was considered a success:

Show Off Your Holiday Memories

After you've captured tons of great holiday images you'll want to to show them off. The hard part is usually deciding which images to display in a limited space. Rather than face showing off only a few of your images, consider a digital photo frame. Digital photo frames are great for showing off lots of images in a small space. They generally range in size from wallet photo display up to 8x10 display.

Time Warner Cable Box Rental Inspired Antitrust Lawsuit

EmagGeek writes "Matthey Meeds, a real-estate agent, was so irritated about having to pay the monthly rental fee that on Tuesday he filed an antitrust suit against Time Warner Cable and its 84 percent owner, Time Warner Inc. The suit alleges that, by linking the provision of premium cable services to rental of the cable box, the companies have established illegal tying arrangements. 'Time Warner's improper tying and bundling harms competition,' Meeds' lawsuit states. 'Since the class can only rent the cable box directly from Time Warner, manufacturers of cable boxes are foreclosed from renting and/or selling cable boxes directly to members of the class at a lower cost.' I pay Comcast over $25/mo for my two DVRs. I'd love to just be able to buy them or build my own.

Warner Music Says Music Video Games Must Pay More

Warner Music CEO Edgar Bronfman said today that video game makers will need to pay more to license songs for music-based video games. Gee, it didn’t take long for greed to overcome the bigwigs at Warner. I wonder who will be next to jump on the “we need more” bandwagon?

Break Peter Moore's Face

Buttonmasher writes, "While previewing Face Breaker at the EA booth it was mentioned that Peter Moore's face had been scanned and entered into the game using the boxer editor. The face, which is creepily accurate, can be attached to any of the bodies and manipulated. Peter asserts that he suits a more chiseled look but the demonstration featured him as a blue monkey."

Downtime in the dungeon: The Raid phenomenon in online games

Hamburg - One identical image appears on 20 monitors scattered across Germany: a dragon, with a group of figures in the foreground preparing to face off against him. Yet the scene is frozen, since the "heroes" are off taking care of other issues: Gnygnyg and Shavon are just standing around because the people normally behind the keyboard have headed off to walk the dog. Chanay takes advantage of the break to bring his daughter to bed. This kind of scene has become commonplace for more and more people, reflecting how the online gaming "raids" have developed into a popular sport.

Movie Studios Split On Same-Day DVD And Digital Releases

Poring over entertainment companies Q2 earnings results, NYP identifies a sharp divide in the way the studios are starting to regard the push toward releasing movies for same day DVD and online VOD release of movies. On one side, Time Warner (NYSE: TWX) and Sony (NYSE: SNE) are fairly positive about expanding “day-and-date” VOD releases, while Viacom (NYSE: VIA), Disney (NYSE: DIS) and News Corp (NYSE: NWS). are much less sanguine about pursuing this format. The advantage for Time Warner and Sony in widening their VOD play has much to do with adding benefits to their distribution and hardware systems—i.e., TW’s connection to Time Warner Cable (NYSE: TWC), though it is being spun off by the end of the year, and Sony’s Bravia hi-def TV line.
