Dante_J writes "In the final report published by the Australian Senate inquiry into 'The Current State of Australia's Space Science & Industry Sector' entitled 'Lost in Space? Setting a new direction for Australia's space science and industry sector,' it calls for the formation of a 'Space Industry Advisory Council' to oversee the creation of a fully-fledged Australian Space Agency. Of the top 20 GDP nations, Australia is the only one without a Space Agency, which impacts on many aspects of ordinary life, not to mention Research and Engineering endeavors. Every satellite operated by Australia is owned by another party and the costs of this alone are comparable to that of a Space Agency. The report is a tidy piece that drew upon submissions form Andy Thomas, and an impressive collection of Australian Academics and Space Science entities fr

ABU DHABI (APP): West Indian captain Chris Gayle Wednesday said Australia’s Test series defeat in India could be a turning point in international cricket that will make the game better. India beat Australia 2-0 in the four-match series, raising hopes that a team other than Australia could become world champions in the future. “India beating Australia is a turning point for us. Getting more wins over such an opponent will make cricket even better,” said Gayle who is here for a three-match series against Pakistan, which started here on Wednesday. Australia’s 2-0 loss to India has prompted experts to predict that the world champions’ dominance of the game is nearing an end, particularly after the retirement of the likes of Glenn McGrath, Shane Warne and Adam Gilchrist.

An interesting day lies ahead in Bangalore, with Australia 263 runs ahead with five wickets in hand. But my first thought on looking at the scorecard was how impoverished Australia's middle order is compared with a year ago. Brad Haddin and Shane Watson are no slouches, but if Adam Gilchrist and Andrew Symonds were at the crease you could start laying your house on Australia adding 90 in an hour and declaring with lots of time remaining.

Australia took a thrilling afternoon session honours in dramatic fashion, dislodging a century opening stand and then running through India's middle order to inspire hopes of retaining the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Virender Sehwag and M Vijay had batted purposefully to add 116, but Australia fought back with a double-strike from Shane Watson and Brett Lee's dismissal of Sehwag for 92. In two deliveries on the verge of tea, Jason Krezja removed VVS Laxman and Sourav Ganguly, for a golden duck in his last Test outing, to continue his fairytale debut. To ensure their tea would taste all the sweeter, Australia ran out Sachin Tendulkar on the last ball of the session. India's lead had increased to 252 but Australia had gained plenty of ground in a tense two hours.
