(RTTNews) - Wednesday, European newspaper publishing and content business Mecom Group Plc (MEC.L) reported wider loss in the first half of fiscal 2008, hurt by exceptional items and amortization of acquired intangibles. However, the company's pre-tax loss was narrower than the prior-year period. On an adjusted basis, earnings rose from last year. Looking forward, Mecom expects that its second-half results will be similar to the first half.

Palm today reported a loss in the last quarter of its financial year that suggests a continued downturn at the company despite recent efforts to improve the company's lineup. The analyst widened his $2.77 2008 loss estimate to a $7.00 loss and cut his $1.07 2009 EPS forecast to a $1.50 loss, reflecting the second quarter earnings miss and increased credit loss assumptions going forward. he cut his $48 price target to $10

Electronic Arts posts narrower Q1 loss; results miss estimates

(RTTNews) - Video game publisher Electronic Arts Inc. (ERTS | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) said Tuesday after the markets closed that first quarter net loss narrowed from last year, helped by new releases of Battlefield: Bad Company and UEFA EURO 2008 as well as continued strong performance of Rock Band. However, the company's quarterly loss per share, excluding items, was worse than what analysts expected as was its quarterly revenue. The company reiterated its revenue and non-GAAP earnings forecast for the fiscal year 2009, but cut its GAAP earnings outlook for the year.

AMD posts a loss of $1.19 Billion for Q2

AMD posted a loss of $1.19 billion for Q2 on revenue of $1.349 billion. That figure is 7% below Q1'08 and 3% higher than their performance from a year ago. That loss includes an $880 million goodwill writedown as a result of their ATI acquisition. AMD announced that they divested themselves of their consumer electronics business (formerly ATI's DTV/handheld division), although they didn't state if that is the result of a pending sale of the unit. Excluding the goodwill charge, AMD's Q2 loss was $269 million, which is much better than Q2'07 when AMD lost $531 million.
