the brown guy writes "An 18 year old high school student named Omar Kahn is charged with 69 felonies for hacking into a school computer and modifying his grades among other things. He changed his C, D and F grades to As, and changed 12 other students grades as well. By installing a remote access program on the schools server Kahn was able to also change his AP scores, distribute test answer keys, and could be looking at a lengthy prison term. Not surprisingly, his parents (who have only recently immigrated to America) have decided not to post the $50,000 bail and Kahn is in jail awaiting trial."

Recently a user, Lori Drew, was charged with a felony for the heinous crime of pretending to be someone else on the Internet. Using the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, Lori was charged for signing up for MySpace using a fake name. "The access to MySpace was unauthorized because using a fake name violated the terms of service. The information from a "protected computer" was the profiles of other MySpace users. If this is found to be a valid interpretation of the law, it's really quite frightening. If you violate the Terms of Service of a website, you can be charged with hacking. That's an astounding concept. Does this mean that everyone who uses Bugmenot could be prosecuted? Also, this isn't a minor crime, it's a felony punishable by up to 5 years imprisonment per count.

Ipod-controlling clothes aren't new, sure, but UK retailer Marks and Spencer is taking a teeny risk with its new line of smart clothing. It's aimed at school kids, with controls and pockets integrated into standard school uniform blazers and coats. A five function keypad from Fibertronic is inside the lapels, and there're loops for hiding the earphone wires under there too. Brilliant idea... until you wonder how many detentions this is going to land kids in, when they decide that listening to tunes on the journey into school isn't enough, and Geography lessons are soooo boring anyway. The Back to School iPod gear is in boys and girls cuts, with the coat going for around $70, depending on size, and the blazer for around $50. [Talk2MyShirt]

Lillian Girl's Academy's tradition of encouraging older students to mentor a younger girl has long protected the Catholic school's reputation for prim and proper behavior without recourse to strict discipline. The “seour system” fosters deep bonds between each generation of students, friendships that can last lifetimes and inspire devotion to rival that of real siblings. First-year student Yumi Fukuzawa is a silent fan of Sachiko Ogasawara, Lillian's most popular second-year student. Beautiful, refined, and reserved, Sachiko is also the “younger sister” of the Yamayuri Council's “Rosa Chinensis,” one of three student officers named after roses whose job it is to run Lillian's student government. Outgoing, modest Yumi has no intention of entering the world of the Yamayuri Council or of doing anything more than admiring her idol

Individuals behind the largest credit card hacking scheme in U.S. history were charged yesterday with numerous crimes, including conspiracy, computer intrusion, fraud, and identity theft. The 11 perpetrators allegedly hacked the wireless networks at nine retailers, including Boston Market, to steal 40 million identities—more than three times the number of employees in the entire restaurant industry. In 2004, when the hacking occurred, Boston Market was notified of a potential data breach at a Florida location, located near other retailers that were suspected to have been targets. "We immediately hired a third party forensics team to look through our entire network as well as the computer system in that restaurant," says Boston Market spokeswoman Angela Proctor.
