Here are my top 10 picks for the best social networking sites. Social networking sites are places where people can go online to meet other people and create their own "friend" list. Blogging, music, videos and photo albums are a big part of what makes a good social networking site into a great social networking site.

Firebrand Training warns SMEs are making it easy for hackers - SMEs are endangering critical corporate information because they are failing to adequately secure their wireless networks. Failure to change preset simple ‘admin’ security settings, or choosing easy-to-crack passwords and allowing the network to be visible to potential attackers are the three most common mistakes made by small and medium businesses with their wireless setup. Firebrand Training is urging SMEs to take a more proactive approach to their wireless security – and they say it is by learning the tricks used by hackers that they will stay one step ahead of potential attacks. The Accelerated Learning pioneer has launched a White Paper “Wireless networks: are we just leaving the stable door wide open?”,outlining the key strategies employed by hackers against co

Social bookmarking is the best way to boost traffic for a site. Social bookmarking is a powerful tool in promoting a website. The ideas that social bookmarking is built on are working their way into other applications; the practice of tagging information is being extended to other types of resources, such as multimedia files and e-mail. Social bookmarking is saving us a lot of time and energy that wed usually spend scanning our RSS feeds or (the shock and horror of it all) actually visiting sites daily to find out whats hot in the industry we work in along with our other interests. Not learning about social bookmarking is nothing short of surrendering to a changing online world.

Joe Jay Bee writes "The British rock band Radiohead, who previously stated that they wouldn't want to have their music on Apple's iTunes Music Store (and, indeed, were unhappy when their Kid A album was released via the store) have performed something of an about-face; virtually their entire catalog, including singles and their B-Sides, has appeared on the store. The band previously said they only wanted their work sold as complete albums, which Apple refused to go along with; however their tack has apparently changed, and all their songs are available to mix and match, including their most recent work, In Rainbows. The albums are all available in DRM-free AAC format."

FeatherBoa points out that the New Democratic Party in Canada has introduced legislation to limit the amount of control Canadian ISPs can exert over their subscribers. The bill would amend the Telecommunications Act to "prohibit network operators from engaging in network management practices that favour, degrade or prioritize any content, application or service transmitted over a broadband network based on its source, ownership or destination, subject to certain exceptions." Support for net neutrality in Canada has been building for quite a while now. Quoting CBC News: "'This bill is about fairness to consumers,' said Charlie Angus, the NDP's digital spokesman. It also looks to prohibit 'network operators from preventing a user from attaching any device to their network and requires network operators to make information about the user's a

The Marketplace Widget extends the capability of Amazon FPS "Pay Now" widgets from simply accepting payments to facilitating payments for others. Ecommerce solution providers, shopping cart providers or marketplace application developers can use the Marketplace Widget to facilitate payments between buyers and sellers. The seller pays a fee to the developer (the marketplace, for example) that can be a fixed amount and/or a percentage of the transaction.

Here’s a quick summary of Fortune’s look at the world of MP3 blogs: Sites like Peter Rojas’ RCRD LBL and TheFader.com attract hip readers that advertisers salivate over. But on their own, they’re too small to easily attract big advertisers. The familiar solution: an MP3 blog network. Music marketers Jon Cohen and Rob Stone of Cornerstone Promotions (which owns TheFader) have already sold Fortune 500 advertisers like Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT) and Toyota on the network, which claims 240,000 readers. That’s basically the news, and the rest reads kind of like an ad for Cohen and Stone to pitch advertisers on the notion that their network of MP3 blogs is a great place to reach the right audience.

On Monday, May 12th, Google released a preview of a new service that will allow web sites that are not intrinsically social to add social networking features to their sites. The service called Google Friend Connect will give any web site owner a snippet of code to add to their site so that social networking features will run immediately without the hassles of programming. The code works by allowing a visitor to sign in to the Google Friend Connect web site using a log-in and password from an email or social network account to which he or she is already registered and has stored contacts (sites include Facebook, Google, Yahoo!, hi5, orkut, Plaxo, and more). Once signed in, the visitor gives the site permission to retrieve his/her profile and friends list from that account so that he or she can see, invite, and interact with friends on the
