Midway Loses $34.8 Million in Q2

Midway Games today announced its second-quarter fiscal results for the period ended June 30. Net revenues fell from $31.8 million last year at this time to $23.4 million, but the total did exceed Midway's prior guidance of $18 million. The publisher suffered a net loss of $34.8 million for the quarter, more than double last year's $14.3 million. Looking at the entire first half, net loss is an even uglier almost $69 million.

Indian Online DVD Rental Service Seventymm Raises $12 Million In Third Round

The funding activity in India in digital media is picking up fast: Bangalore-based online DVD rental company Seventymm has received $12.5 million (Rs 50 crore) from NEA Indo US Ventures. This will be the third round of funding for Seventymm, which now has a total capital of around $22 million. While DFJ with ePlanet Ventures had invested $2 million in 2005, the rest was raised from Matrix Partners in 2006.. Last year Seventymm had acquired Delhi-based online DVD rental firm Madhouse, which had received angel investment of $228,000.

Books-A-Million web sales rise 3% for the first quarter

Books-A-Million Inc. reported web revenue increased 3% to $6.3 million in the first quarter ended May 3, 2008, from $6.1 million in the same quarter in 2007. Comparable store sales decreased $3.6 million, or 3.4% in the same period to $102 million, vs. the first quarter of 2007.

Video game accessories manufacturer Mad Catz today revealed its fourth quarter and full-year earnings for the period ended March 31. Sales in the fourth quarter were up over 13 percent to $21.9 million while net loss amounted to $0.8 million. For the entire year, however, net sales were $87.6 million (down over 12 percent) and Mad Catz posted a net income of $3.2 million, down slightly from the previous year's $3.7 million.

Earnings: BBC.com Ads Help BBCWW Soar; Big YouTube And iTunes Income

Digital revenue at the BBCs overseas, profit-making BBC Worldwide division ballooned from £13.9 million ($27.4 million) to £21.9 million ($43.2 million) in the year to March 31, thanks to ads on the new BBC.com and to sales from the likes of iTunes and YouTube. The controversial BBC.com made £1.5 million ($2.96 million) from ads and sponsorships since its November launch. NBTY muscles up Q3 web sales

In the third quarter NBTYs web sales rose by 35% to $24.7 million from $18.3 million in the prior year. In comparison, same-store sales in North America declined by 6% while total revenue grew by 6.4% to $535 million for the third quarter ended June 30 from $503 million in the prior year. Net income declined to $46 million in the third quarter from $51 million in the prior year.

Deutsche Telekom's online music download portal Musicload has launched its services in Austria and Switzerland. Both portals offer more than 3 million songs, audiobooks and music videos that can be downloaded for free and include music and other content from local bands as well. Musicload already has 3 million registered users in Germany. Customers can choose to pay for each download separately, between EUR 0.79 and EUR 1.99 in Austria or between CHF 1 CHF 2.95 in Switzerland or sign up for a audio streaming subscription called Musicload Nonstop, which costs EUR 8.95 per month in Austria and CHF 12.95 per month in Switzerland. Of the 3 million songs, Musicload offers 1 million as MP3 file and plans to increase the DRM-free portfolio during the coming months.
