Wii Is the New US Console Leader

stoolpigeon writes with this snippet from an AFP story carried by Google: "Nintendo said Thursday that its globally popular Wii has become the top-selling video game console in the United States, a crown coveted by rivals Microsoft and Sony. Market-tracking firm NPD Group reports that 666,000 Wii consoles were sold in the United States in June, raising the total sales count in the country to nearly 10.9 million units." I'd rather play board games than video games, but the Wii Fit makes one of these tempting anyhow.

Video Game Sales Soar 53%

July 18, 2008 (FinancialWire) US video game retail sales soared 53% in June as gamers bought titles for Nintendo s Wii, Microsoft s (NASDAQ: MSFT) (Current Market Cap: US$256.30 Bil.) Xbox 360 and Sony s (NYSE: SNE) Playstation 3. Total sales of video game hardware, software and accessories hit $1.69 billion during the month, up from $1.1 billion in the same period a year earlier, according to data from market researcher NPD Group. According to an analyst the video games industry continued to outperform as people turned to more in-home entertainment due to a difficult economic environment. The portable Nintendo DS was the best-selling gaming system during the month, with 783,000 units, while the Wii sold 666,700 units, besting the PS3 and the Xbox 360.

Remember Topless Wii and Topless Wii: The Revengening? Well this is different. This is Topless Wii Fit, as inspired by that one underpants video of the Wii Fit girl gyrating around. Like we said, different. Zoo Today has a really NSFW video and a slightly NSFW video. The slightly NSFW video after the jump. Head over to Zoo to see the jiggly jubblies. If you can play Wii Fit looking like this, let us know.

Nintendo Unseats Sony as Global Console King

Video game consoles dominate the gaming landscape, but these machines are more than just kids' toys. These systems are emerging as critical platforms for the distribution of digital content to the home, particularly video-on-demand (VoD). Nor should their impact on consumers' purchase of consumer electronics such as high-definition TVs and home networks be ignored. Video game consoles are already competing with television, movie theaters and a host of other entertainment options for consumers' limited time and money. In the future, on-demand video delivered via console in conjunction with broadband video has the potential to cannibalize multichannel video subscriptions.

The early verdict: Both deliver the irreverent fun you'd expect, coupled with some crafty control methods that you perhaps wouldn't. Both are sure to be popular – even Wii Music – though I'm still not 100 percent sold on it.

Nintendo Will Get a Taste of Grand Theft Auto

Nintendo will get a taste of Grand Theft Auto. The top selling game machine....will be getting the number one selling game series.
