Russian search engine group Yandex has launched the public beta of Yandex.Video. Service users can search and share videos clips online, as well as view the most popular videos. Yandex.Video currently searches about twenty video hosting services including youtube.com, rutube.ru, video.mail.ru, smotri.com and myvi.ru. The service's video search method is based on analysis of names, tags, descriptions and other video clip attributes. Search results are ranked according to user ratings. Yandex.Video continuously updates the most popular videos shown on its front page, as it receives information about new comments and new videos posted in blogs from Yandex's Blog Search service. Service users can upload an unlimited amount of video files and create their own favourite lists.

The VIA PadLock provides a random number generator, an advanced cryptography engine, and RSA algorithm computations. The VX800 chipset was VIA's first Integrated Graphics Processor, while the CX700 is a System Media Processor designed for the mobile market. This is another step in VIA's strategy to support the development of Free and Open Source drivers under Linux, which comes pre-installed on VIA products such as the Sylvania NetBook, HP Mini-Note, 15.4" gBook, gPC, CloudBook, Zonbu, and VIA OpenBook. I’ve always taken a hard line on what video games are not. In my opinion, games are not art, and video games are certainly not a sport. I admit that games are an excellent form of competition, and I don’t even have a problem with the concept of “professional gamers.” Having been to a few tournaments, I can understand the skill that players need to have to reach this level.

I totally agree with your view on video games. I think the problem is that most parents don't have the experience you and I have with video games and rely on (false) common sense. Because of this lack of education, they are swayed by people like the Marine who writes the anti-video game books, Jack Thompson and conservative media, which is a shame.

Seattle-based Amazon.com said Wednesday afternoon that the firm has linked its Amazon Video On Demand service to Sony's BRAVIA television sets. According to Amazon, customers can now watch video titles from the site on Sony's BRAVIA Internet Video Link device. The device is used to stream Internet video content to Sony HDTVs. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed. Amazon has a similar deal with TiVo. Amazon's video on demand service is also accessible via PC using the Amazon Unbox software application. Amazon said that moves and TV shows can be both rented or purchased via the device, which is currently in beta.

Recently, we had a story about a lawyer who was suing a bunch of folks for uploading a pinball video game, with some questionable statements about how piracy was destroying the PC gaming industry. Of course, that's not actually true. An excellent post by Cord Blomquist explains how the PC gaming business is actually growing, but in different ways than most people expect. Sure, it may be harder to find certain types of video games that you see on consoles these days, but other games are thriving. But they're doing so by adopting different business models that aren't so impacted by unauthorized distribution. For example, they involve online services (ongoing MMO type games, where the payment is for service, rather than the software) or they focus on making money through other means, such as advertising or upselling premium editions.
