The Wii is still sold out: related news

The Wii is still sold out

On Monday, we reported on the Wii Fit shortage. But believe it or not, the actual Wii console is still in short supply, a year and a half after its release. If you're like us, you figured that after the holiday season the overwhelming demand for the Nintendo Wii would finally let up and you'd finally be able to buy the console easily online and in stores. However, the Wii is still essentially sold out online; we couldn't find the console available to buy from major retailers like Amazon.com, Best Buy, and Circuit City. We did find a few places where you could buy a Wii, but they required you to buy an expensive bundle, like GameStop's $400 bundle or Wal-Mart's $500 bundle. According to Wii Tracker.com, you can't buy a Wii online for less than $390.

Nintendo Wii Sports Resort and Wii Music

Here at the E3 2008 games expo, I got the chance to spend some quality time with early builds of Nintendo's latest 'Wii Series' games: Wii Sports Resort (a sequel to Wii Sports) and Wii Music (once planned as a Wii console launch title). The early verdict: Both deliver the irreverent fun you'd expect, coupled with some crafty control methods that you perhaps wouldn't. Both are sure to be popular – even Wii Music – though I'm still not 100 percent sold on it.

In its latest brief, analyst group DFC Intelligence looks at the ongoing console wars following Memorial Day channel checks and predicts it may, but still concludes that PlayStation 3 will surpass software sales for the Wii by 2012.

Wii Fit - Wii

Alright, let's just get this out of the way: Wii Fit isn't going to give you the muscles of Schwarzenegger or give you the subtle grace of Baryshnikov. In short, if you go in spaghetti-armed and uncoordinated, you'll probably come out that way. Much like Brain Age and other games of its ilk, Wii Fit isn't a magic bullet that'll cure what ails you. But what it can do is get you up and off your couch, which, if you're anything like me, is a good thing all around. Oh, and it's a heck of lot of fun to boot.

WII-CONSOLES.CO.UK PUTS GAMERS ON FAST TRACK FOR NINTENDO'S WII FIT

Nintendo's new blockbuster release, Wii Fit, is flying off the shelves, with most major retailers running out of fresh stock in a matter of minutes. Look Ma! I can play like Wii without the Wii

We have seen different versions of motion sensing controllers trying to mimick Wii style gaming. But Ultimotion from Jakks Pacific not only enables play like Wii but has also got its own version of Wii Sport. Unlike Wii, this is not a console but is something like ‘plug n play’ which fires up the games as soon as it is attached to the TV. Included games are bowling, golf, tennis, baseball and football each included with an accessory of its own for more realistic feeling.

Wii moves past Xbox 360 in the USA says NDP

The North American market has been the stronghold of Xbox 360. It was out far before the competition and as a native company many found Microsoft's new video game console to be a trustworthy product. Xbox 360 has been the most sold console in the USA since the launch, but Nintendo has ended that era according to NDP Research. After only 20 months on the market it has sold 10.9 million Nintendo Wii consoles throughout the USA. This is just thousands more than the number of Xbox 360 consoles sold in the USA, which has been on the market for 32 months. I think we can conclude that Nintendo was right not to get involved in the tech war between Microsoft and Sony.

NSFW Video: Topless Wii Fit Lets You Exercise In Front Of Your Computer

Remember Topless Wii and Topless Wii: The Revengening? Well this is different. This is Topless Wii Fit, as inspired by that one underpants video of the Wii Fit girl gyrating around. If you can play Wii Fit looking like this, let us know.

nYko's Rechargeable Energy Pak for the Wii Balance Board

The Wii Balance Board that comes bundled with Wii Fit runs on batteries, like pretty much all wireless peripherals. nYko has produced rechargeable docking stations for wireless controllers on the Wii already. MotionPlus brings 1-1 Controls to the Wii

Nintendo revealed a new accessory for their Wii console: the Wii MotionPlus. The MotionPlus essentially brings 1:1 controls to the Wii Remote controller. "The Wii MotionPlus accessory attaches to the end of the Wii Remote and, combined with the accelerometer and the sensor bar, allows for more comprehensive tracking of a player s arm position and orientation, providing players with an unmatched level of precision and immersion. In the same spirit as other sports-themed Mario games on Wii like Mario Strikers Charged and Mario Kart Wii, Mario Super Sluggers blends richly interactive baseball action with eccentric characters and elements from across the popular Mario universe. Players can swing the wireless Wii Remote just like a real bat or wave it toward the plate to deliver a masterful pitch, enjoying the same intuitive, easy-to-learn controls that helped make Wii Sports a living room hit. In pictures: Pool Party for the Wii (with the Wii Wonder Stick!)

SouthPeak Interactive’s Pool Party involved players using the Nintendo Wii’s controller as a pool cue as they tried their hands at "hustlin’ pros in dive bars, honky-tonks, mansions and even yachts". Now the game is scheduled for re-release in June 2008, with a “Wonder Stick” attachment included as a package. With a variety of views and angles to take, players can figure out shots and strategies to beat the computer or their human rivals. A variety of characters, table surfaces, 10 environments and up to 13 variations of pool can be selected. An important part of the game is the pool cue: Players are provided with an extension for the Wii controller that should allow them to feel like they are a part of the environment, minus the petty crime and second-hand smoke.

Wii Spray Wiimote Hack Breaks Up The Family Fun With a Little Virtual Vandalism

Check out this Wii controller prototype from Bauhaus-University design student Martin Lihs. The spray paint can-styled casing contains a hacked up Wii controller that's used to manipulate virtual graffiti on a monitor. And since this is an art project, you can bet there are a wide variety of colors, spray caps, and tagging techniques built into the thing. Eventually, Lihs plans to integrate the device into a communal wall as part of his final thesis. It will be a sort of social media/public tagging spectacle that will enable users from around the globe to work on the same piece of art. Best of all, there are no Friend Codes.
