Sony Posts Then Pulls Playstation 3 2 40 Firmware Update: related news

Sony Releases 2.41 PS3 Firmware

Bad news spreads fast in today's world, so when Sony released the 2.40 PS3 firmware update last week it wasn't long before reports of problems started to emerge, with some being unlucky enough to brick their console with the update. Sony therefore made the decision to take down the 2.40 update while they ironed out the problems, with the result being today's 2.41 firmware. Sony are now confident that the issues with 2.40 have been resolved, and have extended their apologies to the Playstation community for any inconvenience caused. 2.41 doesn't add any additional features over 2.40, and Sony hasn't said what it will do about the consoles that were bricked by the 2.40 firmware yet.

Many rejoiced late last night when Sony posted the 2.40 firmware update for the Playstation 3. The 2.40 brought a number of improvements to the platform including in-game XMB accesses, a new Trophy system similar in concept to Xbox 360 Achievements, and the ability for gamers to use music playlists within games (provided that the game developers provides a patch to support the feature).

Sony to bring the social to PlayStation 3 with firmware 2.40

While the PlayStation 3 has gone through an impressive metamorphosis since release, the social aspects of the system still leave much to be desired: there is no good way to communicate to people on your friends list across different games, and inviting people to join you while playing online can be a pain. There is also nothing that comes close to the 360's innovative "achievements" system to get people to try new ways of playing, or simply enjoy the bragging rights of having the highest gamerscore. That changes on July 2, however, when Sony launches the firmware 2.40 update that adds in-game XMB support and trophies to the system. The importance of these two updates is hard to underestimate.
