Bad news spreads fast in today's world, so when Sony released the 2.40 PS3 firmware update last week it wasn't long before reports of problems started to emerge, with some being unlucky enough to brick their console with the update. Sony therefore made the decision to take down the 2.40 update while they ironed out the problems, with the result being today's 2.41 firmware. Sony are now confident that the issues with 2.40 have been resolved, and have extended their apologies to the Playstation community for any inconvenience caused. 2.41 doesn't add any additional features over 2.40, and Sony hasn't said what it will do about the consoles that were bricked by the 2.40 firmware yet.

NEW YORK, July 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Sony's next-generation Blu-ray Disc player, model BDP-S350, is now available across the country at Sony Style retail outlets, sonystyle.com and other authorized Sony retailers. To my horror after installing the update my console wouldn't boot, and this appears to be a not uncommon problem affecting all ages and models of PS3s. Although there is rampant fanboy denial over at the official Playstation forums, the Kotaku article details the issue and has a suggested solution if you don't mind yanking your PS3's hard drive."
