Sony has updated their Playstation blog with a boatload of info on the next system update for the Playstation 3, version 2.4. The update will bring several new features we've already mentioned such as trophies and the ability to play music in-game, but that's not all: the new update will also support XMB access inside games. Like the PSP, the 2.4 update will also include Google support via XMB. Sony has posted a video walkthrough highlighting the new XMB, as well as a 2nd video dedicated to the trophy system.

Apple released iPhone version 2.0.1 update via iTunes Monday evening. The 242MB update contains various "bug fixes," according to Apple's installation note. The update "supercedes all previous versions" of iPhone software. There's no word yet if the update contains any additional features. In addition, Apple also unveiled the iPod touch 2.0.1, most likely containing similar bug fixes. As with all previous versions of the iPhone and iPod touch operating systems, the update is available through iTunes.

This afternoon Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) pulled the wraps off the iPhone 2.0.2 firmware update, its latest update for the device. Aside from “bug fixes” and tangential improvements it doesn’t appear to resolve the iPhone 3G’s connectivity issues, yet some are still hopeful. The jury’s still out on whether the new device’s troubles are linked to a faulty chipset or network problems at AT&T (NYSE: T), but more importantly can it even be fixed with a software update? Details on the update are still scant at this point, but the 242 megabit update is available at iTunes for those hoping to see an end to all those dropped calls. Wishful thinking or has Apple nipped this mess in the bud?

While some forward-thinking individuals were dropping $10 to purchase the iPod touch 2.0 software update, Apple quietly issued a free iPod touch 1.1.5 update. If you own an iPod touch that hasn’t been updated to version 2.0 and would like the update, just plug your iPod touch into your Mac and decline the 2.0 update. iTunes will then inform you that the 1.1.5 update is available for download and installation.

Apple has pushed the iTunes 7.7 update required to use the App Store and will soon make available the iPhone 2.0 software. This is a free upgrade for current iPhone owners and a $20 one for iPod Touch owners. I have downloaded and installed iTunes 7.7 and hooked up my Touch, but a software update check tells me I still have the curent OS software, v1.1.4.

The PlayStation 3 continues to evolve with each firmware update, but not every update can be as exciting as, say, version 2.4 was. With little notice, the latest PlayStation 3 firmware update, version 2.42, has snuck out. What exactly the update does, though, remains to be seen.

Since I'm a Verizon Wireless customer the closest thing to joining the iFrenzy for the iPhone 3G is taking advantage of Apple's App Store and the wealth new software options available for my iPod Touch. The only problem (sound effect of vinyl record scratching) I can't run any applications from the just opened Apple App Store because I'm locked out. Worse, now that I've updated iTunes to 7.7, I can browse and salivate over applications compatible with my iPod Touch and even download them to my PC. The only problem is my iPod Touch firmware won't update to the latest 2.0 version available today. I've been stuck looking at the message "This version of the iPod software (1.1.4) is the current version."

Europe has an excellent example of a store chain where ELECTRONIC COMMERCE is King. It is called Shecklers (www.schlecker.com) . It is referred to as a “drug store” (pharmacies here are just pharmacies….no shoe polish, potato chips, etc). So Shecklers is a variety store, dollar store, convenience, you get the idea.

Want to get in on the closed beta for Sony's once-upon-a-time hotly anticipated PlayStation Home? To throw your name into the hat, just download the PlayStation Home theme that'll be added to the store later today. That's it. Your level of activity is apparently one of the criteria they'll be looking at—it's implied the more hardcore you are, the better your chances, though they might wanna see how nubbie nubs like it too.
