Fable II Pub Games (Xbox 360)

Fable II Pub Games is a collection of three games of chance popular throughout Albion, the world of Fable. The games themselves will feel familiar to anyone with a passing knowledge of common gambling games, and on balance, they're mildly entertaining. Their real appeal lies in their eventual integration with your Fable II game. Any gold or items that you win (or debt you accrue) can be passed on to your hero in Fable II, for better or worse. If you're not excited about Fable II, these games aren't anything special. But for those counting the days until October, the thoroughly Albion-esque presentation and the two reasonably engaging games make Pub Games an appealing purchase.

Games preview: iPhone Games

Mobile games fall into one of three categories: 1) over-complicated versions of well known console games in no way suited to the small screen and unresponsive phone keyboard. 2) 1980s arcade games - the sheer ennui threatens to overwhelm. 3) Joyously new and inventive titles that bear in mind the staccato usage and simple controls necessary to work on a phone. So few fall into the last camp that mobile games are near worth ignoring. Will Apple's promised 160 iPhone games change that? Early signs are at least positive, with the iPhone remix of that megalith of galactic evolution, Spore, shaping into something intriguing; Bomberman, while unproven on a touch screen, is normally pretty reliable; LocoRoco-alike Rolando promises some cute tilt-based gaming and Super Monkey Ball already has punters forming a virtual queue round the block.

Olympic Games Prove Video Games Arent A Sport

I’ve always taken a hard line on what video games are not. In my opinion, games are not art, and video games are certainly not a sport. I admit that games are an excellent form of competition, and I don’t even have a problem with the concept of “professional gamers.” Having been to a few tournaments, I can understand the skill that players need to have to reach this level.

Are Third-Party Wii Games Finally Coming Into Their Own?

Gravy Monkey writes "It's not too difficult to criticize the quality of many third-party Wii games — whether they're unique titles, bad licenses or lazy ports to the new system. However, will this change as more quality third-party games appear on the Wii? Recently, Wiiware title 'Lost Winds' picked up some great reviews, as did the Blastworks game. The recent review of a new game called Order Up on IGN caught my attention because they praised it as the way all casual games should be made. Is this the beginning of a new era for Wii games where quality casual games from third parties manage to grab the attention of both mainstream and hardcore gamers alike, instead of being a console where only first-party titles sell?"

Court Clarifies Statute of Limitations for Trade Secrets

When it comes to determining liability for stolen trade secrets used by unsuspecting third parties, the question in litigation often becomes who knew what when? It has not always been clear when the statute of limitations for these third-party lawsuits begins ticking. Does it start when the trade-secret owner realizes its stolen intellectual property has been licensed to third parties? Does it begin when the trade-secret owner files a lawsuit against the company that stole the secrets and then licensed them to others? Or does it only begin counting down when third-party users are notified that they possess stolen IP?

I think it's fair to say we lacked a proven goalscorer last season, but at least we found the back of the net. The last three pre-season games have seen a goal drought of worrying proportions.

Now I realise pre-season stands for little. The results don't matter, it's the performances but when you've not scored in 3 games - two of which were against teams who we should really have hit the back against - then you start to get a bit jittery. Now, let's not get this out of context. On Friday night we had seven players missing who would be in a starting line up and shortly afterwards lost Stephen McPhee which means we effectively were playing our second string. However, that still doesn't mean we shouldn't have done better against Shrewsbury and at least scored a goal.

Game Developer's Response To Pirates

cliffski writes "A few days ago, indie PC games developer Positech publicly called for people pirating their games to explain why, in an open and honest attempt to see what the causes of gaming piracy were. Hundreds of blog posts, hundreds more emails and several server-reboots later, the developer's reply is up on their site. The pirates had a lot to say, on subjects such as price, DRM, demos and the overall quality of PC games, and Positech owner Cliffski explains how this developer at least will be changing their approach to selling PC games as a result. Is this the start of a change for the wider industry? Or is this the only developer actively listening to the pirates point of view?"
