Microsoft has decided to cut prices of its Xbox 360 arcade system by 11 to 20 percent in the Asian market. However, the company said that it has no plans of bringing the cost down for the Indian market. A company official said, "Microsoft takes a strategic approach to its products in each regional market and sets pricing accordingly. In India, our celebratory offer announced for both -- Core and Pro consoles a few months back is a fantastic example of the same. Currently in India, the Xbox 360 Core console is priced at Rs 14,990 and comes with two free games; Xbox 360 Pro is priced at Rs 23,990 and comes with four free games; and XBOX Elite is priced at Rs 34,990. Whereas, Sony PlayStation 3 is priced between Rs 23,000 and Rs 26,000 for its different models.

Xbox 360 price cut, 60GB model coming soon? If you are thinking of buying an Xbox 360 console you may want to wait a couple weeks, as reports are circulating that Microsoft will be announcing a price cut in time for this year’s E3 show in mid-July. The reports are based on an alleged leaked scan of an upcoming K-mart ad that shows a $50 reduction on the standard 20GB Xbox 360 console, bringing it to a $299 price point.

Based on a leaked Kmart promotional ad, Joystiq is speculating that an Xbox 360 price cut is on the way. According to the ad, Microsoft's Xbox 360 Premium will sell for $299.99 beginning next month. How will this affect the Arcade and Elite models is anyone's guess. Rumor has it that Microsoft will be unveiling a new Xbox 360 SKU with a built-in 60GB HDD. If so, the Arcade may be getting bumped entirely, with the Premium taking its spot at $299.99 and the rumored 60GB model priced at $349.99, or perhaps MS will drop the price on the Arcade from $280 to $250 to take on the Wii directly, while the Premium will sell for $50 more than that?

No Xbox 360 spring update this year? A week ago we reported about a list of features leaked to Kotaku that were supposedly part of an Xbox 360 Spring Dashboard Update. It turns out, however, that the leaked feature list is a fake as Microsoft just confirmed there’ll be no spring update for the console’s system software this year – or at least not in the form of any significant change to the dashboard. Though news will certainly come as a major disappointment to many Xbox 360 owners, Microsoft still has some modifications and general housekeeping planned for its console.

Now comes word from Ars Technica that today's 20GB Xbox 360 Pro will be discontinued to make room for the 60GB model. So in essence this isn't a price cut, but a clearance sale on 20GB Xbox 360s.

Normally we'd skip over Australia-only news, but the official Xbox 360 price cuts there most likely means those rumors of a drop in the US are pretty much locked in for sure (even if the European price reduction a few months ago didn't cross over). Kotaku says all three models got slashed, "with the Arcade down $50 to AUD$349, the Pro down a whopping $180 to AUD$499 and the Elite down $80 to AUD$649." With the new sticker of $349, the Xbox 360 Arcade is actually cheaper than the Wii, which is $400. Toilet flushing and the seasons aren't the only things backwards down there now. First, there was the leaked K-Mart circular revealing a sweet $50 price cut to the Xbox 360 Premium. Since then, the possibility has gotten firmer. Notably the Hollywood Reporter says that a "major retailer" and industry sources have informed them the cut will happen before E3 (though they call it the Pro). And usually reliable Ars Technica says the 20GB model is getting cheaped out to be replaced by that rumored 60GB model.

EEDAR analyst Jesse Divnich today said that an Xbox 360 price cut or model change is very likely to take place by the E3 gaming expo next month. The researcher doesn't point to specific sources but is confident that Microsoft will either drop prices on the consoles at the event, introduce at least one new version, or combine the two in a single update. It's unknown whether Sony will follow suit with the PlayStation 3, though the company is predicted to respond to any Microsoft cuts with one of its own within two months.
