An exciting new home theater experience is coming to living rooms this holiday season. At the E3 Media and Business Summit, Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq “MSFT”) and Netflix, Inc. (Nasdaq: NFLX), the world’s largest online movie rental service, today unveiled an exclusive partnership to offer consumers the ability to instantly stream movies and TV episodes from Netflix to the television via the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system. Xbox 360 will be the only game system that lets users instantly watch movies and TV episodes streamed from Netflix. This movie watching innovation will be available to Xbox LIVE Gold members who are also Netflix subscribers and will let those users enjoy streaming movies from Netflix on Xbox LIVE at no additional cost.

Los Angeles - Bringing the vision of the digital living room one step closer, Microsoft announced an alliance with Netflix Monday whereby the leading online video rental company will stream movies over the internet to the Xbox 360 video game console. Microsoft announced the move at the opening of the E3 video game convention in Los Angeles. The deal will allow owners of the Microsoft video game console to access 10,000 movies offered by Netflix - twice as many as Netflix previously offered over its internet streaming service to PCs.

Redmond, Wash. - Microsoft (NASD: MSFT) announced over the weekend that it has slashed $50 off the price of its basic 20GB Xbox 360 game console, to $299, while also unveiling plans to release a new 60GB model in August that will retail for $349. The company said the price cut on the 20GB model will go on "while supplies last," indicating it will discontinue that version of the device, while continuing to offer the hard drive-free Xbox 360 Arcade model for $280 and 120GB Xbox 360 Elite for $450.

There have been rumours doing the rounds of an imminent price drop for Microsoft's Xbox 360 console. The hearsay might indeed be true as advertisements were recently spotted showing the Xbox 360 selling for about $50 less than it's $350 price tag: The Xbox 360 Pro is being sold at Target's brick-and-mortar stores for $299.99. The North American market has been the stronghold of Xbox 360. It was out far before the competition and as a native company many found Microsoft's new video game console to be a trustworthy product. Xbox 360 has been the most sold console in the USA since the launch, but Nintendo has ended that era according to NDP Research. After only 20 months on the market it has sold 10.9 million Nintendo Wii consoles throughout the USA. This is just thousands more than the number of Xbox 360 consoles sold in the USA, which has been on the market for 32 months. I think we can conclude that Nintendo was right not to get involved in the tech war between Microsoft and Sony.
