EA Sports lightens up for Wii All Play lineup: related news

EA Sports lightens up for Wii "All Play" lineup

Gameplay, marketing all need to be tweaked for casual sports gaming audience targeted by All Play lineup of Wii software

Nintendo Wii Sports Resort and Wii Music

Here at the E3 2008 games expo, I got the chance to spend some quality time with early builds of Nintendo's latest 'Wii Series' games: Wii Sports Resort (a sequel to Wii Sports) and Wii Music (once planned as a Wii console launch title). The early verdict: Both deliver the irreverent fun you'd expect, coupled with some crafty control methods that you perhaps wouldn't. Both are sure to be popular – even Wii Music – though I'm still not 100 percent sold on it.

EA Sports games returning to PC in 2009

During the EA analyst conference call EA Sports head Peter Moore announced that EA Sports games would be making a return to the PC next year: "As many of you probably noticed, this year we cut back on our PC sports games, but only for a year," said EA Sports chief Peter Moore. "We were retooling these titles to take advantage of the online connectivity in a bigger and more meaningful way. Stay tuned for more on this."

E3'08: Wii Sports Resort Revealed

Wii Sports Resort takes place on a tropical island. A wide range of activities will keep players coming back for one more round. Some sample activities include Sword Play, Power Cruising and Disc Dog, which involves accurately tossing a disc to a cute, Mii-like dog. Just as with Wii Sports, people will love competing against friends and family. As the competition heats up, Wii Sports Resort is as much fun to watch as it is to play.

EA levels the playing field with All Play

"We just got a peek at a Wii-exclusive series of games from EA aimed at solving the eternal dilemna of gaming mismatches. Peter Moore introduced All Play a feature being built into numerous Wii titles by EA in the coming year. We watched as Peter Moore played Tiger Woods with an LPGA star whose name I forgot. Sorry, I am sure she's like very famous and is deserving of my memory. Kill me."

Look Ma! I can play like Wii without the Wii

We have seen different versions of motion sensing controllers trying to mimick Wii style gaming. But Ultimotion from Jakks Pacific not only enables play like Wii but has also got its own version of Wii Sport. Unlike Wii, this is not a console but is something like ‘plug n play’ which fires up the games as soon as it is attached to the TV. Included games are bowling, golf, tennis, baseball and football each included with an accessory of its own for more realistic feeling.

With new Wii Sports, Wii Music, the Wii's future is casual

Nintendo's press conference held few surprises, but a new Animal Crossing, Wii Sports, and the announcement of Wii Music show that Nintendo is more dedicated to the casual market than ever. Ars reports from Nintendo's E3 press conference.

Comcast Makes Wii Give Away Promotion Official - Starting today for triple-play customers...

Some additional information on the free Wii promotion that insiders leaked last week now comes via more official channels: From today until August 17, 2008, new customers who sign up for Comcast Preferred Plus or Premier Triple Play package will receive a complimentary Wii system. A Comcast insider also tells me that potential Wii warriors will need to pass a certain credit screening threshold "to be determined by market"; if they don't pass, they will be required to pay the $250 Wii deposit to sign up for the Nintendo Wii offer.

21 upcoming Wii games to drool over

It has come to our attention that certain parties on the Internet want you to believe that there are no decent games coming out on the Wii. These people are malicious liars, and you should not believe them. The Wii has so many great games coming out for it in 2008 and 2009 that we had a hard time narrowing it down just to this list of 21 best, most promising titles.
Are they the same hot games coming out for the PC, 360 and PS3? No, but they shouldn't be. The Wii is all about unique hardware giving gamers unique experiences, and you'll find over 75% of the titles on this list are either console exclusives or loaded with Wii-specific features. So settle back and educate yourself about the 21 greatest games Wii owners — and in many cases only Wii owners — get to look forward to.

Wii Pack Generator Builds Custom Wii Homebrew Installers Via Web

Acting as a one-stop repository for all things Wii homebrew, the Wii Pack Generator brought to you by the WiiBrew folks is a handy aggregator for all of the various homebrew apps scattered around the Web. Just click the checkboxes next to the software you want (including getting things started with the Homebrew Channel via the Twilight Princess hack) and download it to an EXE or ZIP file that's set to load on an SD card. It definitely beats trolling dank homebrew forums for the latest updates. [Wii Pack Generator, Thanks tipsters]

Wii Sqweeze Gives You the Upper Body Strength Of An Olympic Cyclist

This Wii Sqweeze demo by InterAction Labs supposedly does for your upper body what Wii Fit does for the lower body of the 10 people who actually managed to find one. The thing is essentially two squeezable grips (exactly like the kind you can get at sports stores now) that correspond to claws and bows and other activities on screen. It's not a real Wii game now, but just a PC demo running off a Wiimote tied via USB to a Wii. Could it be a real Wii game? Sure, but unless it's got Nintendo's name and advertising attached to it, we don't think it's going to do that well. [Exergamelab]

NSFW Video: Topless Wii Fit Lets You Exercise In Front Of Your Computer

Remember Topless Wii and Topless Wii: The Revengening? Well this is different. This is Topless Wii Fit, as inspired by that one underpants video of the Wii Fit girl gyrating around. Like we said, different. Zoo Today has a really NSFW video and a slightly NSFW video. The slightly NSFW video after the jump. Head over to Zoo to see the jiggly jubblies. If you can play Wii Fit looking like this, let us know.

FIFA 09' Wii Specific Details (FIFA 09)

Step onto the pitch and play a unique football experience exclusively for the Wii. Enjoy FIFA 09 All-Play one of two ways-a Wii-specific take on the classic '11 vs. 11' simulation or over-the-top arcade action with Wii versions of your favorite football superstars.

MotionPlus brings 1-1 Controls to the Wii

Nintendo revealed a new accessory for their Wii console: the Wii MotionPlus. The MotionPlus essentially brings 1:1 controls to the Wii Remote controller. "The Wii MotionPlus accessory attaches to the end of the Wii Remote and, combined with the accelerometer and the sensor bar, allows for more comprehensive tracking of a player s arm position and orientation, providing players with an unmatched level of precision and immersion. Every slight movement players make with their wrist or arm is rendered identically in real time on the screen, providing a true 1:1 response in their game play."

Are Open Source And Low-Priced Solutions Available For Tooling EA?

Justifying an enterprise architecture (EA) tools investment continues to be a problem — particularly when compared with just using Microsoft Visio. So what are the alternatives for inexpensive EA tooling? We investigated five scenarios that can provide a lightweight- or limited-coverage EA tool solution, and we found that the cheapest open source solutions today are very limited and only the more expensive solutions deliver EA value. Free downloads — such as TIBCO Software's Business Studio, which has free business process (BP) analysis for a single user — provide some interesting partial solutions. So, are there cheap EA tool solutions? Yes; but architects must understand their limitations from the beginning because migrating to a different EA tool midcourse is often very painful.

Hudson Entertainment Announces its PAX 2008 Lineup

Hudson Soft has announced their Penny Arcade Expo 2008 (PAX 08) lineup today, and will be showing four games for the Nintendo Wii: two for WiiWare and two full Wii games. The games to be shown include: Bomberman Blast (WiiWare), Alien Crush Returns (WiiWare), FISHING MASTER WORLD TOUR (Wii) and DECA SPORTS(tm) (Wii). Full details are available in the full press release, on GameVortex's PAX 2008 Coverage site.

Wii Homebrew Can Now Read Burned DVDs, Play PSP Games?

Couple of news tidbits from the shadowy Wii homebrew scene today. First is what is supposedly the first custom Wii firmware that its author, Waninkoko, claims will allow the Wii to read burned DVDs without any hardware modification. And from the "just for the hell of it" department is a separate announcement of a PSP emulator running successfully on the Wii—albeit at a blazingly unplayable four to eight frames per second. The PSP emulator smells a bit more of fish than the DVD-R enabling firmware, but neither have been tested officially. [Waninkoko, DCEmu via Slashdot]

Wii Sports 2 Demonstration (With Bonus Pricing Info) [Wii Sports Resort]

Heck, for many Wii owners, it's probably the only game in their collection. So the sequel had better be good.

Deca Sports Sees 700k Shipped Worldwide

Hudson Soft today announced that Deca Sports has shipped 700,000 units worldwide. The Wii title was released as Deca Sporta in Japan in March 2008, followed by a U.S. release in May as Deca Sports with a European release as Sports Island in June. Hudson noted that they are looking to develop titles that "follow in the footsteps of Deca Sports."

Comcast Offers Wii Systems to New Subs

Comcast and Nintendo have teamed up to offer an exclusive deal to new Comcast Triple Play customers. From today until Aug. 17, those who sign up for Comcast Preferred Plus or Premier Triple Play package could receive a complimentary Wii system. Comcast Preferred Plus and Premier Triple Play packages include Comcast Digital Cable with On Demand and premium channels, Comcast Digital Voice, and Comcast High-Speed Internet with PowerBoost. To be eligible for a complimentary Wii system, a two-year contract is required.

Nintendo's Wii Classic Controller and GameCube GamePad Getting a Temporary Ban on Sales

As a result of Nintendo's loss in court to a Texas-based company called Anascape, the judge ruled that all sales of the Wii Classic Controller and the GameCube controller need to be temporarily halted until funds can be placed into an escrow account. What's the impact on you, Joe or Dan Consumer? Starting today, July 23, all sales of those controllers AND GameCube systems will be placed on hold, meaning that you should really try and find a place to buy these accessories now if you need them soon. On the bright side, Nintendo's Nunchuck controller isn't affected by this ruling about analog sticks, so you're safe if you just want to play Wii games. [1up via Kotaku]

American Council on Exercise (ACE) Announces Study Findings on Fitness Benefits of Nintendo Wii

SAN DIEGO, July 22 /PRNewswire/ -- The American Council on Exercise (ACE), America's leading authority on fitness and one of the largest fitness certification, education and training organizations in the world, today announced key findings of an exclusive study conducted at the University of Wisconsin, La Crosse Exercise and Health Program, on the Nintendo Wii. Investigating the potential fitness benefits of Wii Sports, including baseball, bowling, boxing, golf and tennis games, the ACE study revealed that playing Wii Sports increases heart rate, maximum oxygen intake and perceived exertion, which ultimately translates to calories burned.

EA Sports Releases Fantasy Football Live Draft Tracker

July 16, 2008 - EA Sports announced today that it has released the Fantasy Football Live Draft Tracker a few weeks before its original launch date of July 31 on Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network. The Draft Tracker allows players to manage their fantasy football team, get live scoring updates on gameday, and import their fantasy team into Madden 09. The only downside is that the Draft Tracker doesn't allow you to do your draft online with your friends. You can sign onto XBL or PSN and upload your drafted team for all to see, but it's impossible to do a live draft with people around the country using the Draft Tracker. Instead the commissioner of your league will need to manually input each team's draftees by hand.

Wii Sports Lounge At Mood, Newcastle UK

It's the first time a games console has made it into a club and that is, the Nintendo Wii. At the GATE complex in Newcastle, the bar "Mood" was advertising a Wii Sports lounge
