Nintendo Wii Fit - A Month in

So, Shigeru Miyamoto somehow found himself interested in yoga one day and that's partly where the idea for Wii Fit and the Wii Balance Board was born. In a similar fashion as Wii Sports, Wii Fit is being marketed as a fun way to play games and to keep in shape. Does it live up to this promise? Well, I've been at the Wii Fit thing for about a month now, so it's about time I provide a bit of a retrospective.

Nintendo defends Wii Music sales, says it's an "evergreen title"

Wii Sports and Wii Fit have, for the most part, sold at astronomical rates. Though, the same cannot be said for the third brother in the family, Wii Music. Reported NPD numbers say that Wii Music sold more than 50,000 units, which isn't exactly terrible. However, compared to Wii Fit, Wii Music has garnered a less successful reception. Nintendo wholeheartedly believes in the game, however, and are more than willing to defend the game's sales...

Wii Music Tops Japanese Sales Charts as Miyamoto Discusses His Vision for the Game

According to market research firm Media Create Wii Music led Japanese sales charts as the top selling game for the week of October 13 to 19 with 92,000 copies sold. Wii Music is a music video game for the Nintendo Wii that simulates playing musical instruments using the Wii Remote and the Wii Balance Board. The game is part of Nintendo's Wii Series and Touch! generation of games.

News: Krome Already Knew About Wii MotionPlus

Krome, developers of the upcoming Star Wars The Clone Wars game for the Wii, have revealed that Nintendo warned them about Wii MotionPlus before E3.

Lars Ulrich: Napster Wasnt About Money, It Was About Control

Rarely has there been a rock star as maligned for a single incident as Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich. In 2000, he became the poster child for bands lashing out at the online world when the band sued Napster following the leak of “I Disappear” via the peer-to-peer service. Ulrich stands by what he did, but wants fans to know he did it for the right reasons. “Nine out of 10 people go, ‘What was that about? It was about money.’ Fuck you — it wasn’t about money. It was about control,” explains Ulrich. “I’ll give away all my shit for free. But I’ll decide when and where and how.” Click below for more from Ulrich’s conversation with Rolling Stone’s David Fricke, including why he lives his life more openly and how tours have changed since 1983.

Wii Speak to get own channel for 4-way chats...

Owners of Nintendo's upcoming Wii Speak won't have to use games just to talk with friends, the console maker's Cammy Dunaway said at its Fall Summit on Thursday. The Wii itself will receive an update that adds a Wii Speak Channel and so allows as many as four friends to join a voice chat at the top-level interface for the system. It's unknown whether any other features will be included or if the Wii Speak can be replaced with a similarly USB-based speakerphone or headset.

Analysis: Nintendo Wii Fit Most Searched For Product Christmas 2008 in the UK

Wii Fit, Nintendo’s popular video game, is currently the most searched-for product by UK Internet shoppers in the run-up to Christmas. During October there were more UK Internet searches for Wii Fit than the Nintendo Wii, the most popular product last Christmas. After Wii Fit and the Wii console, the third most searched-for gadget is the Apple iPhone.

Wii Homebrew Is Back Again, Now Supporting SDHC Cards

As predicted and expected, homebrew on the WIi is back thriving after being blocked by the most recent software update from Nintendo. Brewers can go about getting their software back by installing a new version of the Homebrew Channel (which also adds SDHC support for cards larger than 2GB) on their updated Wiis. In addition, if you held out on updating immediately, you can install a tweaked version of the Wii Shop channel that lets you download Wii Ware that only works with the newest update while retaining your homebrew. Wii Music sales disappointing, Nintendo not worried

MTV recently interviewed Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo's executive vice president of sales and marketing, about the disappointing sales of Wii Music. Wii Music sold around 65,000 copies in the first two weeks that it was available. By comparison, Wii Fit sold a far more respectable 687,000 copies in it's first month of release. Dunaway considers Wii Music to be an "evergreen title", much in the same way Brain Training is, where sales will gradually increase as more and more people discover the game.

Nintendo Says F You With One-Time-Use Wii Speak Code

Ars discovered that the upcoming Nintendo Wii Speak peripheral—a microphone that finally lets you communicate to other Wii users online—comes with a 16 character code to download the "Wii Speak" channel. This is a one time use code, which cannot be replaced if lost. What does this mean to you? It means you can NEVER sell this thing, NEVER give it away or NEVER use it on another Wii Console than the one it was first downloaded on. We know game studios and publishers hate secondhand sales, because they don't get revenue from it, but this is HARDWARE. Nintendo's seriously going to limit what you can do with hardware you purchased? You go too far, sir. You go too far. [Ars Technica]

The Conduit is a stunning, futuristic title powered by a new game engine technology that delivers remarkable visuals and effects, as well as a rich interactive experience that is unlike any other title on the Wii.

United Kingdom is Wii Fit

The United Kingdom weekly videogame sales chart is dominated, somewhat surprisingly, by Wii Fit. In a week when titles like Fallout 3 and Red Alert 3 were available to players, the fitness oriented release from Nintendo has managed to top the chart, having its third best week of its lifetime in the United Kingdom.

News: PES 2009 Wii Gameplay Details

Konami have revealed new information about the forthcoming PES 2009 for Wii. Scheduled for release in the Spring, the title will retain the intuitive point and click interface used to control both the player in possession of the ball and to send those around him on to runs into space. However, a new traditional control system using either a Wii Remote or Classic controller will also be included.

New Issue of Space Lifestyle Magazine Now Online

Have you heard about Space Lifestyle Magazine? Its a digital magazine, with a full color layout just like a print magazine, but its all online. It's also free. SLM has feature articles about all aspects of space — NewSpace, NASA, military, science and astronomy — but mostly it's about the people that make the space sector tick. The latest issue was just released yesterday, and it includes a bang-up article written by UT's Ian O'Neill about SpaceX. Ian actually toured the SpaceX facility and took some great pictures and wrote a very comprehensive article about SpaceX's recent successful launch to orbit. There's also an article about DIRECT 2.0, the alternative launch system that some NASA engineers think is better than Ares, a feature on possible weddings in space, and much more.

King of Fighters: Orochi Decks PS2, PSP, Winding Up for the Wii (and not the 360)

Well, we've got another compilation pack that I'm looking forward to from SNK. This time, it's chock full of classic KOF games, collecting KOFs 95-97, which clocked PS2s and PSPs upside the head, and is coming soon to the Nintendo Wii, at the great price of $20 (for the PS2) or $30 (for the Wii and PSP). Regrettably, it's not coming to the PS3 or the Xbox 360...so no online play.
