Fable II Pub Games is a collection of three games of chance popular throughout Albion, the world of Fable. The games themselves will feel familiar to anyone with a passing knowledge of common gambling games, and on balance, they're mildly entertaining. Their real appeal lies in their eventual integration with your Fable II game. Any gold or items that you win (or debt you accrue) can be passed on to your hero in Fable II, for better or worse. If you're not excited about Fable II, these games aren't anything special. But for those counting the days until October, the thoroughly Albion-esque presentation and the two reasonably engaging games make Pub Games an appealing purchase.

Star Wars cast aside, what you have here is a solid fighting game. Usually all a fighting game needs to be good is you, a friend, a couch, and some time to kill. Soul Calibur makes it so you don't even have to have your friend physically sitting in the same room as you. All you need is the couch and time to kill. Fans of the series will like this game quite a bit, and newcomers can even be brought in by it. Even new players can be taken in by this game, or perhaps a player who hasn't played any of the recent games of the series. All in all I'd say check this one out, the gameplay can be fun for hours on end, and online adds even more time to that.

Developers are finding ways to cope with the harsh restrictions of Apple's iPhone SDK, writes the LA Times. The terms of the SDK include a strict non-disclosure agreement, which has generally been interpreted to mean that developers cannot discuss the SDK tools with people outside of an app's creative team, whether through e-mail, blogs, discussion boards or conferences. "We can't talk about our problems," says Jeffrey Long, a developer working on a satellite radio app. "At the same time, we can't talk about the problems we've fixed."

You would think by now that companies might start to realize that they're never going to put a damper on any kind of piracy by lawsuit -- but that they need to actually give people a reason to buy. Apparently that message has not yet gotten through to the suits at Nintendo, who are looking into lawsuits to make it difficult to buy products that let you use unauthorized versions of DS handheld console games. There's a device called the R4 Revolution, that can be used by DS owners to store all their games on a single memory card, so they don't have to carry around all those cartridges. That's a big advantage and a huge value.

The summer is almost over but some of you are still in vacation and besides your normal activities, some of you play mmorpg games. While there are many out here, not all people like the subscription models, so they play free mmorpg games. They are not exactly free because they all have shops that can offer you an advantage if you buy special items from there, but it’s not mandatory and in some, it’s not necessary at all if you know what you’re doing. Developers must get money someway in order to maintain the servers and the game, so that’s why we have the shops.

Mobile games fall into one of three categories: 1) over-complicated versions of well known console games in no way suited to the small screen and unresponsive phone keyboard. 2) 1980s arcade games - the sheer ennui threatens to overwhelm. 3) Joyously new and inventive titles that bear in mind the staccato usage and simple controls necessary to work on a phone. So few fall into the last camp that mobile games are near worth ignoring. Will Apple's promised 160 iPhone games change that? Early signs are at least positive, with the iPhone remix of that megalith of galactic evolution, Spore, shaping into something intriguing; Bomberman, while unproven on a touch screen, is normally pretty reliable; LocoRoco-alike Rolando promises some cute tilt-based gaming and Super Monkey Ball already has punters forming a virtual queue round the block.

I’ve always taken a hard line on what video games are not. In my opinion, games are not art, and video games are certainly not a sport. I admit that games are an excellent form of competition, and I don’t even have a problem with the concept of “professional gamers.” Having been to a few tournaments, I can understand the skill that players need to have to reach this level.

ORAN (Algeria)- Video games in Oran (432km west of Algiers) are the main attraction for the young, a large number of whom frequent electronic Cafs and other similar entertainment areas. The video games craze has led electronic Cafs' owners to keep doors open until late in the night, mainly in summertime. Three action games are the favourite, namely "Grand theft auto" (GTA), "Counter Strike" and "Half-Life," with which "regulars spend an average of two to three hours before the monitor," an electronic Caf's manager said.

Scott Aaronson offers an intriguing call for ideas on how nerds can supercharge the political process this year. He's clearly an Obama admirer and phrases his challenge this way: "What non-obvious things can nerds who are so inclined do to help the Democrats win in November?" But the question itself is not inherently partisan. The analogy Aaronson gives is to the Nadertrading idea in 2000 (which we discussed at the time). What's the Nadertrading for 2008? "The sorts of ideas I'm looking for are ones that (1) exploit nerds' nerdiness, (2) go outside the normal channels of influence, (3) increase nerds' effective voting power by several orders of magnitude, (4) are legal, (5) target critical swing states, and (6) can be done as a hobby."

To our European fans – Our counterparts in EU say not to worry, your pre-orders will be announced shortly. In all honesty, each SCE territory has different market challenges and consumer trends. In the US, pre-orders are emphasized a lot earlier in the product marketing messaging cycle. On the other side of the coin, some countries don't emphasize pre-orders as much (or at all). Also, Europe is especially tricky because there are so many different countries, and each country has their own pre-order programs - specific to their own retail partners and consumers. Then include "X" amount of business discussions, legal discussions, logistic issues, etc, add water, and then you have a pre-order campaign (or at least a quick snapshot of the pre-order process).
