Why I don t have a blog: related news

Since I started writing professionally, I have been asked by many friends to open a blog. The reason for their request is that the blog, unlike a weekly column, can be used randomly, instead of weekly. Furthermore, I can write whatever I want about whatever topic, I can even use curse words if the need be, as there is no way of censoring a blog. Most importantly, blogs illicit near immediate reaction from the readers, and many people find it easier to respond to a blog under an anonymous blogger name, than

I feel exploited when a customer takes to much time to send me all the images, texts, videos, ideas etc that I need to complete the project. In the meantime, severals changes are asked from the client. A web site project could take 3 months! Eating peanut butter 3 months in a row is not very interesting (it’s juste an exemple of how poor I can be cause I wait for my money). A project could be finished in 2 short weeks (that never happened to me)… Even if I charge 40% of the total price at the beginning, I always feel that I’m more interested in finishing the project that the customer is. Sometimes I wonder if I’m in the good job in my life, but I prefer to be poor sometimes than having a boss. I’m open to any ideas to not feel exploited, and sorry if I’m definatly not in the topic, that’s what I understood from the article, feeling exploi

I've used iPhones and I have an iPod Touch. I love the interface, and I dig the device. Initially, I had to resist the urge to just buy an iPhone and deal with these problems, but I didn't, opting to get a Nokia N95 instead. A year has passed, and I've realized that I definitely made the right choice -- the limitations of the original iPhone (and the iPhone 2.0) are simply too numerous. Perhaps I've been spoiled by my N95 (and truth be told, I'll be getting an N96 in the next few months), but no matter how you slice it, I've decided that the iPhone just isn't my cup of tea. Here's why:

stoolpigeon writes "I remember the first time I saw a program I had written after the interface had been revamped by a designer. I had been pretty happy with what I had made. It worked very well and met the client's requirements. It was extremely functional and I thought it didn't look bad either. But when I saw the new interface, not functionally different, just so much better looking, I was really blown away. My application had gone from useful to cool. (That might be a slight exaggeration, it was still just a database app but it sure looked cool to me.) Since then I've learned to primarily leave the user interface work to the experts in that arena, and I stick to the getting the functionality in place. But sometimes I don't have the luxury of a design team at my disposal.

MyLongNickName writes "Less than a month ago I took a position at a smaller firm (around 50 employees) as an IT Manager. As you might expect from the size of the company, I oversee quite a variety of tasks. I come from a background of computer programming, and am definitely not a master of every function. We rely on third-party solutions providers for areas like our networking, web hosting, phone systems, etc. I am used to working in a larger environment with a large IT staff (and not just because of super sizing at McDonald's). Just the daily rubbing elbows allowed me to stay current in areas that I did not directly touch. And when I had a question, I personally knew someone who could answer my question. I am not in that environment now. How do I stay current? I don't want to be a master of every technology, but I want to be aware of tre

Shadow7789 writes "I have been in the market for a new computer for the past few weeks and I know that I want to run Linux on it. However, every time I look at (for example) Dell's computers that are preloaded with Linux, the question pops into my head: 'Why should I buy a PC preloaded with Linux?' They are more expensive, and it's not hard just to reformat the PC with Linux. I hate paying the Microsoft Tax as much as anybody else, but if paying that 'tax' allows companies to reduce my price by bundling with my PC products that I will never use, why wouldn't I just buy a Windows-loaded PC and reformat?"

I was scared to death when I heard the loud shot-like noise that came from the DVD disk I was playing. Apparently the disk shattered inside the drive! The drive is wide open but it won’t close, and half the disc seems to be inside the drive somewhere. No other CD can go in at all. How do I take out the rest of the CD broken inside? Can someone please tell me how can I open the CD player inside the computer? I need to see inside so I can remove the rest of the disk. How did this thing happen? My computer is working fine. I mean I even turned it off and on again to see what could happen. Nothing. Can someone tell me if I should open the computer CPU case so I can remove the pieces? Thanks, Mary

Hey folks, As you may remember, back before I started the DPL job I promised to run a survey. Then I pestered a huge number of people to answer a set of questions and get back to me. I've taken longer than I hoped to read through all those responses and summarise them, but finally I'm done. As I said at the time, I'm *not* going to go into great gory detail about individuals or specific teams here and now. Many of the surveys include personal information and I promised to protect that. Instead, this is just a summary of the results. I'll be following up in more detail with various of the teams in the coming weeks. If you have any questions in the meantime, please feel free to contact me. So, enough of the disclaimers... :-) The raw numbers =============== I sent out 75 mails containing survey questions[1] at the end of April.

Remember a week or so ago when I developed that madras-plaid fetish? Well, it got real bad. I wanted everything in the preppy pattern. I bid on a bunch of stuff, and then for some reason (my own slowness or cheapness) I wound up with nothing. It was all sad, but the real heartbreak was the jumper, which I lost in its auction's last moments. Afterward I could not stop thinking about that piece. I mean, I had big summer plans for it: I imagined riding my bike wearing it with red round-toe flats; walking on the boardwalk in it with big sunglasses and flip-flops, perhaps eating a snow cone; throwing it on in the morning to get coffee and blog. The entire situation was a True. Ebay. Tragedy. But then I was in Old Navy on Friday, and nestled amid its lamé bikinis and hot pink maxi dresses, there it was, hiding: my new jumper.

When Geoff Miller rang on Saturday morning to let me know about selection for the first Test, I was in the field at the Rose Bowl so I missed his call. I saw that I had a voicemail when I got back to the dressing-room, but I had to go to batting practice before I could hear it. When I finally listened to the message, it said only that I should call him back, no clues as to whether he had good or bad news and, try as I might, I couldn't guess anything from his tone of voice.

If there's anything I know how to do, it's procrastinate. Just ask my friends --I'll put off important papers until the night before they're due, and I'll come up with the most inane excuses to put off doing something (I don't remember when "I have to do my nails" has ever qualified as a legitimate exemption). But, my most-favored procrastination tool --reading blogs --has turned out to be quite worthwhile. I decided to start my own blog my freshman year of college (Pretty Legit) where I began to practice writing and familiarizing myself with the world of online media. It was hard at times --learning enough html to customize my site was sometimes frustrating, and getting proficient at Photoshop took weeks and weeks of work --but the experience in general has given me so much (and probably had a hand in getting me this internship).

I tend to change phones pretty frequently, but for the past several months I have been using the HTC S620 (Excalibur). I have just loved the size and feel of it. I also use the iPhone here and there, but as a rule, I always seem to drift back to a phone that has a QWERTY keyboard. What can I say, I like buttons :o) And as another rule, it seems that no matter what phones I may use, I do eventually find myself picking up a Palm smartphone again...

If you have ever wanted to earn money through blogging but found hardly any success at it, then you probably should straighten up in your chair and read what I got to say. Now for starters you probably heard that you could just start a blog, write about something you know, slap some Adsense and some Affiliate links on it and you are off to earning some money. Come on, you and I both know that your earnings (if any) are not substantial. I am willing to bet that you have not even been paid your first Adsense check yet. Now before I come off sounding like a "rude" guy, let me explain to you something of importance to me. I was in the same boat as you once. I thought I could just go over to Blogger and create me a blog, write a few posts and expect people to stop by and click on my ads or buy from my affiliate links.

What is a blog? For the web savvy, it's nothing new, but for those who don't know, a blog is a simple themed website, displaying content in a chronological format. The blog owner can write content on anything related to the blog's chosen theme and keep updating or deleting the content whenever needed. When new content is added (new blog post), it's added to the top of the blog.

IconFirst, a little background. I am a Windows user who has been using Windows since 3.1. I am not a programmer or a developer, I am a user. I process photos, use the internet, e-mail, write letters, play the ever important games and even use it to develop my comic strips. I am not computer illiterate and I use my computer with confidence and skill. Now with that said. I hate Windows.

I was wondering what the best painting/styling/digital art program is out there? I have photoshop and illustrator CS3, and my goal is to work with large graphic files, poster size, and create my own cool designs and styles. I find the default brushes in photoshop and effects are ok, but i would like to be able to do more. I don't have a wacom tablet yet, but I intend on getting one. Currently I don't feel like hand drawing everything then scanning it. Takes too much time especially if i make mistakes..
