As I’ve mentioned before, National Public Radio’s (US) On the Media is part of my weekly podcast diet. It was an interesting look at three different views on internet comments on articles and radio programmes. Host Bob Garfield interviewed This American Life's Ira Glass, 'professional writer and critic' Lee Siegel and Roanoke Times editor Carole Tarrant. It spawned a round of very interesting blog posts and comments - Comments on comments on comments, as Jeff Jarvis put it. It soon spilled out onto Twitter from with an interesting discussion between Jay Rosen and Kevin Marks.

Jesper Johansson, co-author of Windows Vista Security: Securing Vista Against Malicious Attacks, recently wrote an article in The Register which dissects a new type of threat. Anyone with a blog has probably seen blog spam- comments made on blog posts which have little or nothing to do with the actual blog post, but contain links to spam-related web sites. I have spam filters in place, so I rarely even see the blog spam posts. They are an annoyance, and I simply delete them in periodic batches. However, Jesper did stop to look at the spam and noticed that a new breed was becoming prevalent. The new breed, rather than just leading to some annoying spam site, are actually malware attacks. For a complete breakdown of the threat, and Jesper's dissection and analysis, check out Anatomy of a Malware Scam.

LAS VEGAS -- Alex Edelstein, CEO of Gemstone Development, one of Las Vegas' largest new homebuilders, has launched www.frothingdeveloper.com, a new blog designed to counter the media's perennially negative spin on the economy and the housing market. Initially inspired by what Edelstein believes are misleading and negative local Realtor statistics on Las Vegas home inventory levels, Edelstein created the site to expose the inaccuracies prevalent in today's news stories, and to provide a forum for the positive statistics and facts that get buried at the bottom of back page stories, if published at all.

An anonymous reader writes "In what seems to be a repeat of what happened in July, a few news sites have mentioned that there is evidence of a campaign against Georgia. For example, both the government's and the president's sites are inaccessible, among other official websites. For some analysis, the RBN Exploit blog demonstrates various traceroutes that have failed to several sites. They also claim that the RBN (Russian Business Network cyber-crime organisation) are behind the attacks, and that 'Many of Georgia's internet servers were under external control from late Thursday,' before the actual war began. Finally, according to this Twitter account of someone in Georgia (written in Russian), he claims that 'Russia has blocked access to Georgian websites from within Russia' (rough translation).

The two changes are closely related as after some lengthy discussions with my friends at ebizq, I have decided to relaunch this blog. However, it will now focus exclusively on the financial services industry and broaden its scope to include all of enterprise infrastructure as it applies to that industry.
