Official Top 30 Beauty Blogs in the UK - Ever wanted to know who the top 30 UK beauty blogs are? The Montpellier Beauty team have painstakingly put together a list of the top beauty blogs in the United Kingdom. After compiling a list of all the UK beauty blogs (which was no easy task when there are many US beauty blogs that talk about UK beauty products, and vice versa), the Montpellier Beauty team then assessed each blog with several criteria, before finally publishing the results! In first position was the 'Kiss and Makeup' blog owned by Shiny Media. Hotly followed in second place by the independent blog run by PJ, 'A Touch of Blusher'. In third place our congratulations go out to 'Cult Beauty Blog'. The ranking criteria used were: Google Page Rank, Alexa Traffic Rank, and Technorati Blog Rank.

I have now written a six part series on software community blogs. This has included some of our larger partners such as Oracle, TIBCO, and Software AG who maintain multiple blogs with a community. I also covered the Agile Commons blog by our partner, Rally. We have some other partners who have excellent individual blogs, or in the case of Infosys, a great collection of blogs. A list can be found in the right side of this blog. Here are three more of them.

Blogs have been popular for a long time, but blog advertising has not. Early on, advertisers were wary of associating themselves with the sometimes-inflammatory content of the new media form, and even two years ago blog advertising made up a meager 2 percent share of online revenue. New research, however, suggests that marketers who take a pass on blogs may be missing a good way to sell their products. JupiterResearch, conducting a study for ad network BuzzLogic, found that half of blog readers say they find blogs useful for purchase information, and more frequent blog readers trust them more than social networking sites for influencing purchase decisions. Fifty-two percent say blogs played a role in the critical moment they decided to move forward with a purchase, and half of frequent blog readers have taken action after viewing an ad on

Run DMC has told us before that "it's tricky to rock a rhyme that's right on time, it's tricky". Apparently, it's not so tricky for Run DMC-er Joseph Simmons (aka Reverend Run) to rock a beat on Nintendo's Wii Music. He even gets his kids into the groove and it goes from DJ turn-tables to beat-boxing. It really looks quite creative. Wiki-wiki-what!?

The Beer and Blogs evening will be at Le PetitWe asked you for an opinion and boy, did we get a response! Our idea of hosting a “Beer and Blogs” (or in the case of some bloggers “Wine and Blogs”) evening was met with great enthusiasm. Online news editor Jan Hennop will now take it back to Le Petit’s Llewellyn Thatcher so that we can set a date and a time. Some of your comments on the idea:

superglaze writes to tell us that VMWare has announced a large effort behind their Mobile Virtualization Platform, promising the possibility of multiple operating systems on mobile devices. "The company described MVP as a "thin layer of software" that will be embedded in handsets and 'be optimized to run efficiently on low-power-consuming and memory-constrained mobile phones.' Asked whether MVP would offer something different from the abstraction already provided by mobile Java, VMware's European product director Fredrik Sjostedt told ZDNet UK that MVP would require less recoding. 'If you want to have an application run on a Java-specific appliance, you need to code it for Java," Sjostedt said. "What we're introducing with MVP is an [embedded] abstraction layer below that, between the physical hardware and the software layer.

I've used blogs in my classes for five years with university graduate students. I've found them to be extremely helpful in certain circumstances but only when there is clarity for students in their use. Students who object to the inclusion of blogs in a course are usually objecting to what they perceive will be just one more task on top of a myriad of others or simply some busy work that will not benefit their learning. Older students can also reject the notion of "publication" that is inherent with blogging. Each of these objections can be addressed by an effective and innovative instructor by careful planning and skillful management. There are, however, several common mistakes that should be avoided when using blogs in instruction. I have made all of these mistakes and have learned how to address each one proactively.

Marco Folio posted a list of the most popular Design blogs out there and these are definitely some of the best of the best. If you're not reading these sites, you should reconsider. Sites like Smashing Magazine, PSDTuts, and CSS-Tricks are all blogs that I read nearly every day. And the others on this list are just as spectacular. I'm honestly surprised that some of my favorite Web design sites didn't make it on the list like MezzoBlue, A List Apart, and Vitamin and others on my Blogroll. But perhaps they aren't considered blogs.

One of the biggest benefits of building a blog for your company is the increased traffic that comes from new content and new search listings in the search results. In fact, extra listings in the search results is one of the best selling points if you are trying to convince your company to launch a blog. Especially if you're dealing with someone who thinks people don't read blogs.

Beauty being my beat, I scour the web for beauty blogs that pique my interest by offering the latest and greatest in the beauty biz. Perusing blogs keeps me constantly updated on the hottest releases on the market faster than a glossy mag, since most authors post daily on their blogs. An added bonus is that bloggers are more likely to give an in-depth review of products they’ve test-driven, which helps readers assess whether or not they want to invest in a particular product, especially if it’s pricey. Even beauty bloggers have been invited to attend fashion week since their blogs serve as vehicles to demonstrate the faces in fashion. There’s a wealth of info to be found here, from savvy advice to detailed how-tos for those who enjoy keeping up with the trends.

Blogs have become entrenched in mainstream life, according to the 2008 "State of the Blogosphere" report that found bloggers are adding new posts at a staggering rate -- more than 37,000 per hour -- to their increasingly profitable blogs. That growth, the report said, has attracted the attention of companies who are turning to such blog sites to promote their brands.
