New media art is no stranger to eastern Europe and the Balkans; from the early net.art of Vuc Cosic to the collective work of Apsolutno, these regions were the proving ground for many groundbreaking experiments in media, politics, and art. So the upcoming international symposium on (New) Media Art in Museums this October in Croatia signals that the region's consideration of media art has come full circle from unknown outsiders and agitators to curated collectibles (not too dissimilar to the path traced in other regions or for other "avant-gardes"). The intersection of cultural institutions like museums with new media art continues to confound both artists and curators alike. No standard institutional model has arisen for the collecting of such work, for how to frame it in the overall programs of the museum, nor how to preserve the work.

While fellow Magna ad spend forecaster Bob Coen has taken a slightly more pessimistic view of online ad revenue growth for this year, the IPG media firm has separately issued another report with a fairly healthy outlook for digital media through 2009. While Brian Weiser, Magna’s director of Industry Analysis, mainly tries to remind the industry that “traditional media never died” and is still thriving, his Emerging Media Forecast (PDF) notes that growth is slowing for social media, gaming and online video in 2009. The Evolution of Online Media Search Gives Birth to Dizzler - Free music and multi-media mega-search engine and media player giant, Dizzler, announces official website launch and established presence in the playable media search technology arena today at Dizzler. The evolution of online technology has allowed us to bear witness to the exponential growth of search engine giants like Google and Yahoo. IMRG Capgemini e-Retail Sales Index on Wednesday showed online spending rose in July to reach a total market value of over 4.8 billion - the equivalent of 79 for every person in the UK. The Index shows that shoppers continued to spend online despite pressures on disposable income with sales rising 11.3% on June. Online retail growth draws a sharp comparison to BRC figures which showed that high street sales for July were 0.9% down on June. A wet July did not appear to curb UK shoppers as they turned to the internet to continue their spending. The rain inspired shoppers to holiday plans and new summer wardrobes which saw online sales in the clothing, footwear and accessories sector grow by 22.8% for July.

US chemical grade and polymer grade propylene contracts began to settle at a roll over from July, consumers and one producer reported Thursday. Settlements for July PGP were talked at 85 cents/lb while July CGP contracts were at 83.50 cents/lb. One producer however was reportedly still in negotiations. The ammonia hike alone accounted for a $80/mt jump in ACN prices, sources said. A rollover in the polymer grade propylene contract meant PP makers would likely have to abandon their 6 cents/lb August price incr
