And this team, which used a simpler algorithm, did much better — nearly as well as the best algorithm on the boards for the $1 million challenge. The teacher relates this back to Google's page ranking algorithm and presents a pretty convincing argument. What do you think? Will more data usually perform better than a better algorithm?"

Do humans hear better than animals? It is known that various species of land and water-based living creatures are capable of hearing some lower and higher frequencies than humans are capable of detecting. However, scientists from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and elsewhere have now for the first time demonstrated how the reactions of single neurons give humans the capability of detecting fine differences in frequencies better than animals.

ArnieCricket = Action = Art is a blog that I've recently discovered and become quite a fan of. The author, Martyd (surely not Damien Martyn??), hails from New Zealand and describes himself as "taller than Sachin Tendulkar, better looking than Scotty Styris, younger than Jack Hobbs, more self-controlled than Jesse Ryder and more humble than Ricky Ponting".
