JagsLive sends in a story (in somewhat inflammatory prose) from The Inquirer, which links to many others; they have been following developments in the alleged NVidia quality "fiasco" for some time. "Hot on the heels of its denials that anything is wrong with the G92 and G94s comes another PCN [Product Change Notification] that shows the G92s and G92b are being changed for no reason. Yup, the problems that are plaguing G84 and G86 are the same that affect seemingly all 65nm and now 55nm NVidia parts... It is hard to overstate how bad this is. Basically every 65nm and 55nm NVidia part appears to be defective... We are hearing of early failure rates in the teens percent for 8800GTs and far higher for 9600GTs... To make matters worse, NVidia has a mound of unsold defective parts that they are going to bleed out into the channel along side of

Cosmic voids really are devoid of matter. Astronomers have found that even the pervasive 'dark matter' which accounts for about 80% of the mass of the universe is not present in these voids, which are areas of vast emptiness in space that can be tens of millions of light-years across. "Astronomers have wondered for a quarter-century whether these voids were 'too big' or 'too empty' to be explained by gravity alone," said University of Chicago researcher Jeremy Tinker, who led the new study using data from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey II (SDSS-II). "Our analysis shows that the voids in these surveys are exactly as big and as empty as predicted by the 'standard' theory of the universe."

Firebrand Training warns SMEs are making it easy for hackers - SMEs are endangering critical corporate information because they are failing to adequately secure their wireless networks. Failure to change preset simple ‘admin’ security settings, or choosing easy-to-crack passwords and allowing the network to be visible to potential attackers are the three most common mistakes made by small and medium businesses with their wireless setup. Firebrand Training is urging SMEs to take a more proactive approach to their wireless security – and they say it is by learning the tricks used by hackers that they will stay one step ahead of potential attacks. The Accelerated Learning pioneer has launched a White Paper “Wireless networks: are we just leaving the stable door wide open?”,outlining the key strategies employed by hackers against co

Color Model: When you hear the term color model we are referring to the method from which we define or classify the color we are to work with. Examples of such are RGB, LAB, CMYK, etc. Color Space: A color space is simply a variation of your color model. For instance, within your RGB framework some common variations are, sRGB, Adobe RGB, and so on. Some of these spaces are better for display e.g. sRGB and Wide Gamut RGB while other color spaces are more suited to printing e.g. ColorMatch RGB and Adobe RGB. Now, it is important to note that every device in our workflow utilizes it's own unique color space. Meaning, while your monitor, scanner, and printer will base their color spaces basically on what we can see their actual gamut (range of colors) will differ.

I just want to ask you one quick question. Are your blogs profitable? I told you it would be quick. It's real simple to answer. Either your blogs are earning for you, or their not. I will tell you something here and I will be blunt. If your blogs are earning you some type of income then you need to listen up. If your blogs are not earning you some sort of income then you DEFINETLY need to listen up. Pay attention close to what I say and maybe the next time someone asks you that question instead of saying yes or no you can say "HECK YES THEY ARE"! Now I again will be blunt. Some people consider this totally unethical and blackhat. I leave that for you to decide. A vast majority of the people that will tell you this is "blackhat", are not earning "peanuts" from their blogging efforts.

As the economy grinds to a halt there are worrying signs that many homeowners across the UK are cutting back on their house insurance or cancelling their cover outright. More and more people are being pushed onto the poverty line and concerned how they are going to pay for the more basic items such as food and energy. Consoleme.ca writes: Everyone knows the long and sordid history of Silicon Knights' new game for the Xbox 360, Too Human. It had a terrible showing at E3 in 2006, is part of a huge lawsuit against Unreal 3 engine maker Epic Games and is being led by one of the industries most outspoken individuals in Denis Dyack. Since that poor showing in 2006 Too Human has been on its heels trying to repair the damage done by an on-floor demo that was crippled by an incomplete Unreal Engine and in a form not ready to be seen by the public. For Dyack, this battle has raged on now for almost 3 years…and is finally about to come to its dramatic conclusion. The game is finally releasing in August of 2008 and, as promised, Canada's own Silicon Knights have released a demo for a game many not only expect to fail, but want to fail.

Organizations are rapidly consolidating multiple physical servers to virtual environments. There is no debating the cost savings and operational benefits of virtualization. The issues that are now arising as virtualization continues to proliferate are rooted in management and how organizations can gain cost visibility and recover the costs of their virtualization projects. Medical implants are an application where no tradeoffs can be made; failures are costly in both human and monetary terms. Biocompatibility is a must, devices are size-limited (meaning high material strength is needed), and long term durability in the face of fatigue and corrosion are needed to prevent multiple costly and risky operations. Generally, getting one of the aforementioned qualities requires sacrificing another, but novel processing of commercially pure titanium (CP Ti) has produced exceptional mechanical properties, and recent clinical trials have proven its superior biocompatibility as well.

Analyst Frederick Cannon says Fannie Mae on Friday posted a $2.54 second quarter loss, much wider than the 79 cents consensus and his 89 cents estimate. He notes Fannie also stated a number of measures to preserve capital, including limited portfolio loan growth, a dividend cut, and expense cuts. Cannon feels scaling back on portfolio growth is especially important as it means the benefit to Fannie from widening credit spreads is limited, capital raises are dilutive to future earnings. The analyst widened his $2.77 2008 loss estimate to a $7.00 loss and cut his $1.07 2009 EPS forecast to a $1.50 loss, reflecting the second quarter earnings miss and increased credit loss assumptions going forward. he cut his $48 price target to $10

Software developers and programmers are bound by convention and capitalism. Some of the software that they design isnt free, so the patches and fixes that they provide are distributed in small executables that cant be read by likeminded technophiles. This is unfortunate for a number of reasons. Firstly, the fact that the clever authors of these programs hide their source code from the public means that independent developers are prevented from providing ad hoc patches of their own. An independent software designer (and there are many out there) may have a glaringly obvious solution to a problem that the proprietors of the software have spent weeks scratching their heads over.

"I just read Louis Gray's post titled 'On the Web, If You're Not Growing, You're Dying.' It gave me a chilling realization about web services. Like everything else, what goes up must come down. This must apply to Linux distributions too, right? So, what's happening with Linux? Which distributions are growing? Like Louis Gray, I'm going to use data from Google Trends. People searching the name of Linux distributions on Google can be considered new users. After all, wouldn't experienced Linux users already know where the websites of the big Linux distributions are?
