Testing a HELP System in a Java Application

"Given that customers mostly use the Help system when they are already frustrated by our software, we should always see to it that such errors do not exist in our help system. To do this, we will write a tool, HelpGenerator, that generates some of the boilerplate XML in the help system and checks the HTML and index files for the problems listed above. We will also build tools for displaying and testing the contextual help. We've re-engineered and improved these tools and present them in this article.

Paralyzed Man Walks Again Using Exoskeleton

dominique_cimafranca notes a story up at the Daily Mail in the UK about a partially paralyzed man who is able to walk again using an exoskeleton frame. The article goes a bit far in comparing the device to Robocop, but it does show pictures of the man, paralyzed for the last 20 years, regaining some use of his legs. Quoting: "The device, called ReWalk, is the brainchild of engineer Amit Goffer, founder of Argo Medical Technologies, a small Israeli high-tech company. Something of a mix between the exoskeleton of a crustacean and the suit worn by Robocop, ReWalk helps paraplegics — people paralyzed below the waist — to stand, walk and climb stairs. The system, which requires crutches to help with balance, consists of motorized leg supports, body sensors and a back pack containing a computerized control box and rechargeable batteries.

As Bloggers Take Office In Malaysia, Gov't Orders ISPs To Block Certain Blogs

Over the last couple of years, we've had a series of interesting stories about how the Malaysian gov't is dealing with "blogs." First, a gov't official slammed blogs and tried to pass a law requiring bloggers to register with the government. Outrage over such a plan resulted in it being scrapped, but the majority ruling party still struggled with blogs -- though tried to figure out ways to respond to them more feasibly than attacking them. It set up a gov't agency to respond to bloggers, and later required certain candidates for offices to set up their own blogs. Of course, it also tried to crack down on some bloggers it didn't like, including having a state owned paper file a libel suit over a blog.

Google to erect ?Big Tent? for political circus bloggers

At the time of the 2000 presidential campaign, blogging was in its infancy. By 2004, CNN was reporting that “a new breed of political observers will be offering volumes of pointed commentary at this year’s political conventions,” with both parties granting credentials to a handful of bloggers. But this time around the presidential race track, blogging is bigtime. Some 500 bloggers will be working the Democratic National Convention in Denver next week, some embedded with their state delegations on the floor. The Republicans have credentialed about 200 for their confab in St. Paul, with convention spokeswoman Joanna Burgos saying, “We recognize it’s a whole new world out there with bloggers but we’re really embracing it.” And tending to the needs and sustenance of these content-generating armies will be Google.

Convention Stars, McCain's 'Prickly' Interview

Both Bill Clinton's and Joe Biden's speeches last night at the convention earned solid marks from most liberal bloggers. They praise Biden's sincerity and ability to appeal to the problems of average Americans and Clinton's oratory skills and wholehearted support for Obama. At the Weekly Standard, bloggers think Biden made a better case for Obama than Clinton, who they think did not focus enough on Obama's past accomplishments. One Huffington Post blogger thinks that Clinton missed the chance to attack McCain on foreign policy, an issue that Biden addressed more effectively. Conservative bloggers eagerly point out a couple of mistakes Biden made in his speech. The real hit of the night among liberal bloggers, however, was John Kerry, who gave a "golden speech" and "delivered some of the night's most memorable lines.
