Alexander Who's Not Not Not Not Not Not Going to Move

President-Elect Obama Is Blog Buzz King

No wonder he was elected president. Turns out that Barack Obama blew the blog buzz meter off the wall. Our friends at Zeta Interactive, who mine blogs with their Relevant Nose technology, found that he topped the 2008 blog buzz. The group scours 100 million blogs and online communities and found that Obama's buzz was nearly twice of any other politician. But interestingly, it wasn't Sarah Palin who came in second as you might have expected, considering that she was the talk of the nation from September on. Nope, that runner-up slot went to Sen. John McCain. Makes sense, of course, because he was Obama's foe, but it seemed like he was MIA in the blog world, especially when Palin hit the scene. No. 4 was Hillary Clinton and right behind her was another New Yorker, disgraced former Mayor Eliot Spitzer.

Barack Obama Is One Step Closer To Being President

At 3:00 Eastern time on Monday Dec. 15, 538 electors in state capitols across the US cast the votes that actually elected Barack Obama the 44th President. Obama received, unofficially, 365 electoral votes (with 270 needed to win). The exact total will not be official — or Obama officially elected — until Congress certifies the count of electoral votes in a joint session on Jan. 6, 2009. The Electoral College was established in its present form in 1804 by the Twelfth Amendment to the US Constitution. Electors are not required to vote for the candidate who won their state — in fact, 24 states make it a criminal offense to vote otherwise, but no "faithless elector" has ever been charged with a crime. "On 158 occasions, electors have cast their votes for President or Vice President in a manner different from that prescribed by the legis

Twitter accounts of Obama, Britney Spears hacked

The Twitter accounts of US president-elect Barack Obama, singer Britney Spears and other prominent figures were hacked on Monday and fake messages sent out in their names on the micro-blogging service. Twitter founder Biz Stone, in a post on the official company blog, said a total of 33 Twitter accounts had been hacked including those of Obama and Rick Sanchez, a CNN television anchor with tens of thousands of followers. We immediately locked down the accounts and investigated the issue, Stone said, nothing that because of transition issues Obama has not updated his Twitter account since winning the US presidential election in November. Twitter, which allows users to post real-time updates of 140 characters or less, has an estimated four to five million users according to a recent study.

Katy Guest: If that Obama phones again, get rid of him

Why is being Barack Obama much like finding the best strategy for a successful shopping trip at the pre-Christmas, credit-crunch sales? Because the following things are important: get there early; move fast; bring change. In other ways, however, Obama's methods are just not chiming with the culture of the coming recession. These are suspicious times, you see. Nobody trusts anyone. There are moles in our governments. Banks won't do as they're told. Coppers are knocking down our doors. You'd be crazy to take things at face value in these nervy, dog-eat-dog times. So full marks to the Republican congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen last week for her enthusiastic embracing of the culture of distrust.

Australian Filtering Boss: Turning Off Blog And Comments

With the story earlier this week about Australia's Broadband Minister, Stephen Conroy, considering adding BitTorrent filtering to the country's ISP filtering/censorship program, it was notable that Conroy said he was paying close attention to the commentary about the program online -- including various blogs and social network systems like Twitter. That was actually a small glimmer of hope mixed in with the ridiculous policy -- but it appears that Conroy has decided he'd really rather not listen to the conversation on his own blog. While that post about BitTorrent filtering got a lot of attention, it also got a ton of comments, and now Conroy and his team are turning off their blog and closing down the comments. Way to communicate with the people.

Problems Reported Between Obama Transition Team And NASA's Griffin

The Orlando Sentinel reported that NASA chief Mike Griffin demanded to speak with the next president himself, after a heated conversation with Obama's point person on space policy. The report said that Griffin told Obama's chosen space policy expert, former NASA associate administrator Lori Garver, that she lacks qualification to judge NASA's rocket program. He allegedly made the comments during a book publishing party at NASA headquarters last week.

Poland's Central Bank does not rule out currency market intervention tostabilize zloty

WARSAW. DECEMBER 17. INTERFAX CENTRAL EUROPE - The scale of the current depreciation of the Polish zloty does not reflect Poland's economic fundamentals, which is why the National Bank of Poland (NBP) is not ruling out an intervention on the currency market to stabilize the Polish currency, said NBP president Slawomir Skrzypek. "The zloty has been very volatile in the past few months and the scale of the depreciation is growing," he told reporters Wednesday. "I'm not a fan of currency interventions, but I'm not ruling them out." "For sure if we enter the ERM2 [euro zone mechanism], such procedures would become common practice. But the current depreciation is bigger than fundamentals would suggest," he added. Over the past several months the zloty dropped 19.

The expulsion order against the four came following the party Chairperson's directives as charges of violating party discipline, involvement in antiparty activities and preventing party candidates from carrying out election campaign were brought against them, said a press release issued from BNP Feni district branch on Friday. It also said the primary memberships of the four activists have also been cancelled.
