Blog Buzz John McCain and Hamas Not a Civil Union: related news

Blog Buzz: John McCain and Hamas, Not a Civil Union

The left side of the blogosphere loves the video of John McCain's chat with Jamie Rubin in which he said that "sooner or later we are going to have to deal with" Hamas. The right side of the blogosphere argues that Rubin mischaracterized both McCain's criticism of Obama and his comments about talking to Hamas. NRO's Jim Geraghty found other video of apparently the same time period where McCain says Hamas has to give up on destroying Israel before any talks can take place. RedState's Soren Dayton says that there's a real difference between dealing with Hamas and talking to Iran. Marc Ambinder says that whether to talk to Iran is in fact the salient issue. And Andrew Sullivan says he agrees with McCain that talking to Hamas is fine and that Obama is off-base on the issue.

Blog Buzz: The Never-Ending Clark-McCain Squabble and McCain-Romney?

L'Affaire Clark rolls into its third day (in case you've been too busy cleaning out your Swift Boat to follow the news, The Fix sums up where we've been so far) and the McCain campaign sets up another conference call defending their candidate McMilitary McRecord. And McCain supporters continue to make the case that Clark was not a political lone gunman. Was Wes Clark Swift Boating McCain? "No!" say McCain supporters because the Swift Boaters were right (whereas Clark supporters say no because the Swift Boaters were wrong). Speaking of military records, Clark's is now under fire. Clark, meanwhile, refuses to retreat and keeps charging forward (generally into the path of oncoming television cameras). Is it helpful? Certainly he's started conversations about what exactly McCain's military record qualifies him for.

Blog Buzz: Special Wesley Clark Swift-Boating Edition

Were Wes Clark's remarks about John McCain's Vietnam War experiences out of line? Of all the things one can criticize McCain for, The Huffington Post's Robert Guttman notes, "lacking command experience" doesn't seem very important. And Andrew Sullivan on the Atlantic's Daily Dish accuses Clark of "swift-boating McCain," maintaining that McCain's military record (like Kerry's) should be revered, period. But Jon Soltz, another Huffington Post blogger, believes Clark is "100 percent absolutely right" and should not back down. TPM's Josh Marshall thinks the idea that Clark's comment was a case of "swift-boating" is both inane and a reflection of how out of touchthe D.C. media bigwigs are. Other Obama-ites agree, pointing out that Clark wasn't questioning McCain's service but rather the manner in which it translates to presidential credentials

Blog, Blogging & Blog Posts - What Does It All Mean?

What is a blog? For the web savvy, it's nothing new, but for those who don't know, a blog is a simple themed website, displaying content in a chronological format. The blog owner can write content on anything related to the blog's chosen theme and keep updating or deleting the content whenever needed. When new content is added (new blog post), it's added to the top of the blog.

Blog Buzz: McCain's 'Important'" Quote, Boren's Non-Endorsement, and Vice Presidential Chatter

What exactly did Sen. John McCain mean when he said this morning that when U.S. troops come home from Iraq is "not too important"? Decide for yourself: TPM's Josh Marshall posts the video (and suggests that within a day or so McCain will deny ever having said it). Then read liberals blasting him for the comments (including saying it's a redux of his comments about staying in Iraq for 100 years) and conservatives coming to his defense (including saying it's a redux of his comments about staying in Iraq for 100 years, with attendant Dem-agoguery).

Blog Buzz: Which Is the Bigger Problem, McCain's Lobbyists or Obama's 'Serious' Iran Talk?

As the McCain-lobbyist body count rises, libs turn their fire on the big fish, McC-adviser Charlie Black. Carpetbagger's Steve Benen gets a chuckle from the idea of Black, who used to lobby for very bad foreigners, meeting with other very bad foreigners (maybe Black'd be OK with it if Obama's precondition was a lobbying contract). WashMo's Kevin Drum thinks the press is bungling the story by expressing shock—shock!—that there are lobbyists in a presidential campaign, while MyDD's Jonathan Singer notes that McCain's biggest problem is that he apparently thought that these sort of ethics-lobbying stories would not apply to him. TNR's Noam Scheiber adds that the ongoing lobbyist/staffer firings are just adding credibility to the issue. Politico's Jonathan Martin notes that the McCain campaign is responding by pointing out that Obama cons

McCain Asks Supporters To Campaign On Blogs

Vote McCain in 2000! writes "McCain is not the stranger to technology some think him to be. McCain is now asking supporters to stump for him on blogs. Republican Web 2.0 consultant David All was effluent with praise for this outreach, calling it 'smart' and 'unique.' McCain's blogger outreach section has a handy list of political blogs which might be interested in hearing about McCain, such as the DailyKos, Crooks and Liars, and Think Progress. You can even report your posts to the campaign and 'receive points for your success,' though the page doesn't say what exactly the points are good for." Slashdot is not on their suggested blogs list. Can't imagine why.

Blog Buzz: November, Obama's Economics, and McCain's Maybe Media Criticism

HuffPo's Tom Edsall notes GOP insiders are worried that John McCain has fumbled his head start. J Ro at MyDD comes to the same conclusion, via a different route. Dean Barnett at the Weekly Standard's blog notes that Barack Obama has opened up an 8-point lead over McCain and says all things considered, that ain't too bad for the GOP.

Blog Buzz: Lots of Talk About Obama-Clinton, McCain's Health, Biden's Future, and McCain's Immigration Position...but Does It All Add Up to Anything?

Are the Obama and Clinton camps talking veep? Howard, son of wolf, says it ain't so, and Politico's Mike Allen gives a Lanny Davis-produced list of reasons why the Clintonites still don't like Barack. TPM's David Kurtz notes that Hillary Clinton's top fundraiser thinks that if she doesn't get a veep invite, her supporters might not show up in November. Andrew Sullivan is admittedly all over the place on an Obama-Clinton ticket but ultimately thinks it's a good idea. Marc Ambinder doesn't think the case is clear-cut either way. WashMo's ' Kevin Drum thinks the renewed "dream ticket" talk is "more heat than light." TNR's Michael Crowley agrees, describing it all as absurd kabuki that will not result in a unity ticket. Matthew Yglesias also doubts Clinton's interest.

-Three Legitimate Ways To Make Money With Blogging

Believe it or not, but it's actually possible to make money from blogging. One teenager has, in fact, earned $5,000 a month just from making posts on his blog! Of course, not every blogger is this lucky. It does take some skill, and some luck to make money from blogging. What it also takes is some knowledge of how exactly to generate income just by posting blogs. We will go over three specific methods of making money on your blog: Adsense, Pay Per Lead, and Affiliate Links. So how exactly do I make money on my blog? You do it by working with another company that wants to use your blog as a form of advertising. It sounds like selling out, right? Not exactly. The advertising can be as in your face or subtle as you want. And it can still make you money, provided you have enough visitors to your blog.

McCain Supports Warrantless Domestic Surveillance

I Don't Believe in Imaginary Property writes "While there have been shifting reports about McCain's view on warrantless wiretapping, nothing could be clearer than the latest comment by McCain adviser Doug Holtz-Eakin, who said, 'We do not know what lies ahead in our nation's fight against radical Islamic extremists, but John McCain will do everything he can to protect Americans from such threats, including asking the telecoms for appropriate assistance to collect intelligence against foreign threats to the United States as authorized by Article II of the Constitution.' Article II, of course, is what Bush has argued gives the President virtually unlimited power during war, and McCain has already voted in favor of Telecom Immunity, though he sometimes mentions wanting to holding hearings about what the telecoms did to those asking for accou

McCain Launches New Blog, Links to Kos

John McCain's campaign launched a spiffy new blog on Friday, stepping up an effort to catch up to Barack Obama's web dominance. McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds sent reporters a statement hitting several Internet priorities:

John McCain Denounces Powerful Pastor After Blogger Digs Up Incendiary Audio

Sen. John McCain on Thursday renounced the endorsement of televangelist and megachurch pastor John Hagee a week after an audio recording of Hagee's incendiary comment about Hitler and Jews surfaced on a blog.

Blog Buzz: Tuesday's Speeches and Hillary's Future

TPM's Josh Marshall: McCain's was "frighteningly" bad. There are plenty of poor reviews of the McCain speech to be found today, even among people who liked the message. (By the way, what was up with that green backdrop? Is the McCain campaign hoping bloggers insert their own backdrops on the green screen?) Clinton's speech comes in for a lashing in several corners as well. (Though former Clinton ghost David Kusnet, also writing at The Plank, defends Mrs. Clinton's speech, saying that it wasn't unusual so much as the overall situation.) DemFromCT at Daily Kos rounds up the reviews of the Barack Obama and McCain speeches, and it's Obama in a landslide. Though there were plenty of critics on substance, and NRO's Rick Brookhiser runs down the list of eloquent American pols who never spoke from the bully pulpit.

Your Blog Is Not Earning

If you have ever wanted to earn money through blogging but found hardly any success at it, then you probably should straighten up in your chair and read what I got to say. Now for starters you probably heard that you could just start a blog, write about something you know, slap some Adsense and some Affiliate links on it and you are off to earning some money. Come on, you and I both know that your earnings (if any) are not substantial. I am willing to bet that you have not even been paid your first Adsense check yet. Now before I come off sounding like a "rude" guy, let me explain to you something of importance to me. I was in the same boat as you once. I thought I could just go over to Blogger and create me a blog, write a few posts and expect people to stop by and click on my ads or buy from my affiliate links.

Blogger reveals McCain did not vote for Bush

Los Angeles: A report by liberal blogger and author Arianna Huffington that John McCain had admitted to not voting for George W. Bush in the 2000 presidential race spurred a minor tempest and brought angry denials from McCain's campaign on Tuesday.

Pick up the Slack

In 2002 McCain voted against an initiative that would have improved textile workers' factories. Considering the U.S. probably has one of the highest demands for clothing of all sorts, it would be great if our own workers could benefit from the market. Here's a link on McCain and his lack of support for textile and apparel employees in 2002. Our textile industry should be growing, not being tripped up by short-sighted industry policies. So a bunch of people want to delve into the textile industry and McCain can't see a reason to fund it. Gives a new meaning to "take the shirt off your back". So what's with McCain's approach? McCain is a doofus. The textile industry's time has come to play 1st string, not 2nd fiddle. Obama could take this on. Let's get someone who sees the need to fund the future of our textile industries.

Blog Buzz: Race in the Race, Hillary's Future, and McCain's Preacher Probs

Steven Benen at Carpetbagger wonders about Hillary Clinton seeming to say that hard-working Americans are white and also says that even her broader point is wrong. Michael Tedesco at Comments from Left Field and Jonathan Chait at TNR's The Plank also weigh in with condemnations. And the fire is not all coming from the left on this—Andrew Sullivan says that if a GOPer had said the same thing, it could be a career-ending mistake, while Mark Kilmer at Red State thinks a Dem race war would be entertaining if it weren't so serious for the country. Hillary has some defenders, including MyDD's Jerome Armstrong, who sees creeping PCism at work, and Matthew Yglesias, who gives Mrs. C the benefit of the doubt. TNR's Michael Crowley argues that her bigger point—that white America might not elect black Obama—is worth discussing in the open.

Blogged.com Adds Blog Article Search and Improves Recommendations

There are a number of blog search tools out there, and some have become controversial for their human-powered curator process and simplistic style. But such an approach has its merits when you look at the broad appeal of blog recommendations and curated suggestions. There are those end users that would like to be able to find blog content that’s not technology related, and doesn’t come from self-promotional platforms that are often found on some memes and other blog search engines.

Blogger Launches 'Google Bomb' At McCain

hhavensteincw writes "A liberal blogger has launched a 'Google bomb' project aimed at boosting Google search results for nine news articles showing Sen. John McCain in a negative light. The Computerworld article notes: 'Chris Bowers, managing editor of the progressive blog OpenLeft, is launching the Google bombs by encouraging bloggers to embed Web links to the nine news stories about McCain in their blogs, which helps raise their ranking in Google search results. Bowers is reprising a similar Google bombing effort he undertook in 2006 against 52 different congressional candidates. "Obviously, it is manipulating, but search engines are not public forums and unless you act to use them for your own benefit, your opponent's information is going to get out there," Bowers said.

Blog Buzz: Iran, the Obamas, and Kennedy

NRO's Jim Geraghty wants to know: If only Nixon could go to China, who has the cred to go to Iran? (Hint: The Iranian leadership probably wouldn't want to take him hunting.) Speaking of meeting with adversaries, NRO colleague Andrew Stuttaford notes that Nixon met with Castro in 1959, but Mark Steyn (also NRO), says that Nixon/Castro is the wrong analogy—that people should think instead of Kurt Waldheim whose "relatively minor sin of biographical omission relating to his military service in a war that had ended four decades earlier" brought opprobrium upon him. More broadly, PoliticalMavens's Arnold Ahlert wants to know whether a President Obama would allow a nuclear Iran? On the left side of the blogosphere, discussion is percolating about whether or not John McCain knows who actually runs foreign policy in Iran.

Blog Buzz: Barack Obama's Mortgage Rorschach, John McCain's Shakeup, and Flip-Flops

Depending (mostly) on your political bent, today's Washington Post story about Barack Obama's home loan is evidence of media schizophrenia, media incompetence, an Obama real estate scandal, or an Obama non scandal.
