TNR's Christopher Orr says Bush's overseas apparent swipe at Barack Obama-as-Neville Chamberlain is both off-base and politically inept, though Mike Long at the conservative Political Mavens sees some irony in Democrats complaining about politics going beyond the water's edge. Matthew Yglesias says that Bush and his allies make the mistake of seeing Hitler in any foreigner they don't like. Power Line's Paul says that Obama—not named in the speech—is being defensive, while NRO's Jim Geraghty says that it's true that the Illinois senator has never advocated negotiating with terrorists—just their sponsors.

Probable GOP presidential nominee Sen. John McCain won't have to give any more speeches about the kind of conservative judges he'd appoint if he looks to Yahoo search engine users for advice on whom to pick for his running mate. Either would be unusually historic picks, and certainly much more unconventional than the two other leading search choices: former candidates Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee. There are no surprises among the top Democratic searches for vice presidents. No. 1 is Sen. Barack Obama followed by Sen. Hillary Clinton. Do the results of the Yahoo "Search Buzz" meter mean anything? Yes: It's been a good predictor for election results this year, especially voter support for candida

Google plans to expand its finance Web site by adding more historical data and company filings as it tries to gain ground on more-popular services from Yahoo and AOL. The company will also seek to improve its 2-year-old finance site by offering real-time stock prices from the New York Stock Exchange on a permanent basis after a four-month pilot started this week, said R.J. Pittman, director of product management. Google's finance pages had 2.07 million U.S. visitors last month, ranking 13th on researcher ComScore's list of top financial sites. The company plans to use its search technology to help users find data more efficiently, rather than adding editorial content to lure more users, Pittman said. Adding features such as up-to-the-minute stock quotes will help Google lure more visitors that may then visit the company's other sites, sai

The great gas-tax debate of 2008 continues to fuel the blogosphere, with Josh Marshall wondering why Team Obama has been so inept at deflating the Clinton plan. The search goes on for an economist who will back Clinton (who, of course, has no truck with them pointy-heads anyway). By the way, McCain supports a gas tax holiday, too—has anyone noticed? And Clinton's assertion that she will take down OPEC also gets some notice from Spence Ackerman.
