Convention Stars, McCain's 'Prickly' Interview

Both Bill Clinton's and Joe Biden's speeches last night at the convention earned solid marks from most liberal bloggers. They praise Biden's sincerity and ability to appeal to the problems of average Americans and Clinton's oratory skills and wholehearted support for Obama. At the Weekly Standard, bloggers think Biden made a better case for Obama than Clinton, who they think did not focus enough on Obama's past accomplishments. One Huffington Post blogger thinks that Clinton missed the chance to attack McCain on foreign policy, an issue that Biden addressed more effectively. Conservative bloggers eagerly point out a couple of mistakes Biden made in his speech. The real hit of the night among liberal bloggers, however, was John Kerry, who gave a "golden speech" and "delivered some of the night's most memorable lines.

On Why Investment Bloggers Stop Blogging

Bloggers stop blogging for a lot of different reasons. But, that wasn’t the question? The question was why investment bloggers stopped – especially good investment bloggers. Why, once established, and with some number of regular readers would an investment blogger stop blogging?

But the writer, Joshua Chaffin, concludes: "For all its buzz about a potential £110m valuation, the site is not consistently profitable. Bloggers have not yet proved they can convert traffic into advertising dollars."

As Bloggers Take Office In Malaysia, Gov't Orders ISPs To Block Certain Blogs

Over the last couple of years, we've had a series of interesting stories about how the Malaysian gov't is dealing with "blogs." First, a gov't official slammed blogs and tried to pass a law requiring bloggers to register with the government. Outrage over such a plan resulted in it being scrapped, but the majority ruling party still struggled with blogs -- though tried to figure out ways to respond to them more feasibly than attacking them. It set up a gov't agency to respond to bloggers, and later required certain candidates for offices to set up their own blogs. Of course, it also tried to crack down on some bloggers it didn't like, including having a state owned paper file a libel suit over a blog.

Watch the Premiere of Our First LIVE show: Meet the Bloggers

We helped spread the word about hard-hitting documentaries like Outfoxed, Wal-Mart, and Iraq for Sale. Brave New Films then started making its own short videos like The REAL McCain and our FOX Attacks series, and you saw the chance to reach even more people by spreading them all over the web. Well, with a great deal of excitement (and just a wee bit of nervousness!), we bring you the next way for you to get involved.

Google to erect ?Big Tent? for political circus bloggers

At the time of the 2000 presidential campaign, blogging was in its infancy. By 2004, CNN was reporting that “a new breed of political observers will be offering volumes of pointed commentary at this year’s political conventions,” with both parties granting credentials to a handful of bloggers. But this time around the presidential race track, blogging is bigtime. Some 500 bloggers will be working the Democratic National Convention in Denver next week, some embedded with their state delegations on the floor. The Republicans have credentialed about 200 for their confab in St. Paul, with convention spokeswoman Joanna Burgos saying, “We recognize it’s a whole new world out there with bloggers but we’re really embracing it.” And tending to the needs and sustenance of these content-generating armies will be Google.

Bloggers target the real estate clients

Four bloggers use their blogs to close sales. They use the blogs to target the right real estate clients and find that they sometimes perform better than a site. Speaking at the Bloggers Connect Program at the Real Estate Connect conference at San Francisco, they typified the new generation of realtors in the US who are leveraging technology to weather a slowing real estate cycle.

Bloggers warned

MANAMA: National Security authorities yesterday summoned bloggers whose websites have been blocked for allegedly fuelling sectarianism and harming national unity. "Promoting false information would only undermine public security and compromise Bahrain's interests," a spokesman said. The bloggers showed understanding for the reasons behind their questioning and the importance of sparing Bahrain any danger, he said. The preventive step has been co-ordinated with the ministerial watchdog set up by the Cabinet. It is also in line with His Majesty King Hamad's call to observe transparency and promote dialogue with people.

Study: Some doctor bloggers tell all

Although doctor or nurse bloggers might think they're anonymous, they sometimes inadvertently end up revealing their identities and, as a result, their patients', according to a study. Researchers reviewed five entries each for 271 blogs written by people who said they were a physician or a nurse, and they found that 114 of the blogs described patients. More than half of the bloggers provided enough information in their text or images to reveal their identities, and 45 of the blogs that described interactions with individual patients included enough information for them to identify their doctors or themselves. Three blogs went so far to show recognizable photos of patients.
