Internet TV: watch this space

The British internet TV market could generate revenues of £1.78bn by 2011, according to research carried out by technology company Alcatel-Lucent. Although the industry is in its infancy, several British companies, including TV website Joost, already offer TV over the internet, and BT Vision, the pay-TV arm of the telecoms giant, uses broadband connections to deliver shows to customers' TV sets. Faster internet connections have already popularised some internet shows, including Kate Modern, made by social networking site Bebo.

New 3G iPhone ads are here

Apple has posted latest ads for 3G iPhone on its website. Three in number, these adverts are titled Everyone, Unslow, Work Friendly. The ads extol the speed (compared with the original iPhone’s EDGE network) and GPS facilities of the 3G device and also focus on the price reduction i.e. twice as fast, half the price. The ad titled Everyone claims that everyone would like features that work at speed and still would like to pay half the price. Next in the list is Unslow, which touts the 3G features of new iPhone and the fact that internet is ‘twice as fast’. Finally the Work Friendly focuses on the work-related features (obviously) and ends with a line: ‘It works great…with work’. Check out all the three ads after jump.

"[W]hy the Internet didn't 'melt' is quite simple — [Limelight is] completely 'off the cloud.' In other words, unlike Akamai and similar content caching providers, their system isn't deployed over the public Internet... NADA will seek to build an Internet architecture that delivers data from the edge of the Internet using set top boxes and Peer-to-Peer technology, instead of the network-centric architecture that stores and delivers content from data centers via Internet backbones. NADA is proposing a network of hundreds of thousands of set top boxes, hugely popular in Europe, to be essentially split into two — one side is the user interface side, the other a virtualised Peer-to-Peer storage client that stores and sends media in the same way a data center would. A new study from comScore Inc. based on data from comScore’s Ad Metrix service shows that many of the largest apparel retailers are noticeably absent from top online advertiser rankings. American Apparel LLC was the top online display advertiser in the apparel category, delivering 483 million ads in April. The ads of American Apparel, No. 262 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide to Retail Web Sites, reached 48.9 million unique Internet users an average of 9.9 times during the month, according to comScore.
