Everyone seems convinced Steve Jobs will announce a new iPhone next week at WWDC and the speculation is wild as to what new features it will include: 3G cellular support, GPS, new design, etc. While I'll admit the evidence is strong that a new phone will be introduced -- one cannot ignore the low supply of the current model or indicators like AT&T's "no June/July vacations" memo to staff -- I am not convinced this new phone will be radically different from the current model.

We’ve all been hearing a million different things about this “new” iPhone that is suppose to be coming out any day now! I recently spoke to one of my friends who works at AT&T and I guess the new gossip going around is that the new iPhone is going to be cheaper than the original. I don’t know about you guys, but I find this hard to believe. The 3G is suppose to be faster, have GPS, a new glossy black cover (that is said to be color changeable), slightly thicker, updated software and the camera is expected to be better. I’m sure there will be a ton more things that will be changed or newly added to the new iPhone, so it’s a little strange that Apple would make the new iPhone less expensive...Especially, because people are going to buy it no matter how much it is.

Genome Research is publishing several papers related to analyses of the duck-billed platypus (Ornithorhynchus anatinus) genome sequence. The place of (egg-laying) monotremes, such as the platypus, in mammalian evolutionary history has remained controversial. Now, researchers are finding that the distinctive anatomical and physiological properties of the platypus are reflected in the newly sequenced platypus genome. Through comparative genomics, the platypus genome is providing remarkable insights into the evolution of venom components, the sex-determination system, testicular descent, and small RNA pathways. Primary research reports describing these novel insights will appear online May 8, concurrent with publication of the platypus genome sequence report in the journal Nature.

MachineShedFred writes "A lawsuit has been filed against all the county District Attorneys as well as the Attorney General of Oregon to block enforcement of a new law that restricts the sale of 'sexually explicit' material to people under the age of 18. Powell's Books (who claims to be the largest independent new and used bookstore in the world) as well as Dark Horse Comics (publisher of Frank Miller graphic novels) as well as many other bookstores claim that the new law would be impossible for these businesses to comply with. 'Powell's has in stock over 2 million volumes constituting over 1 million titles,' Michael Powell said in his affidavit. 'We receive on an average over 5,000 new titles per week. Obviously we cannot read each new title to determine whether there are any sexual explicit portions and if so whether such portions "serve
