DUBAI—A month after Christie's in Dubai sold Iranian artist Parviz Tanavoli's The Wall (Oh Persepolis) for $2.84 million, setting an auction record for a Middle Eastern artist, Dubai-based broker and private equity company Daman Investments PSC has started a 50 million dirham ($13.6 million) fund to buy Middle Eastern art, reports Bloomberg. New Portimao museum

Portimao’s new museum.PORTIMAO’S new municipal museum was inaugurated last week by the Minister of Culture, Pinto Ribeiro. The Museum is housed in an old sardine canning factory and it hosts regular, as well as temporary exhibitions that cover art, history and general culture, all of a local and national content. On permanent show are a large selection of donated artefacts from the region, such as industrial equipment, photographs, documents and archaeological and naval pieces, among others. A local fishing boat, built in Galiza, in 1911 and restored by Portimao Town Council is being exhibited outside the museum.

Scottish National Museum to Undergo Face-Lift

EDINBURGH—The National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh will undergo a £46.4 million renovation, the Daily Express reports, leaving the museum's Victorian building closed until 2011. Among the planned features of the renovation are a redesigned entrance hall, 16 new galleries, the creation of a larger special exhibitions gallery, and a new learning center. The museum's modern building, built in 1988, will remain open to the public.
