TRANSactions: Contemporary Latin American and Latino Art

The Weatherspoon Art Museum will serve next summer as the only North Carolina/mid-Atlantic venue for the nationally traveling exhibition, TRANSactions: Contemporary Latin American and Latino Art. The exhibition was originated by the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD), where it premiered, and was drawn from their renowned permanent collection. Interim venues have been the Memorial Art Gallery, University of Rochester and the High Museum of Art, Atlanta. TRANSactions will be on view at the Weatherspoon Art Museum in Greensboro, NC from June 20 - September 28, 2008.

Ponca City, We Love You sends news of a study by Colorado State University psychologist William Szlemko that recorded whether people had added seat covers, bumper stickers, special paint jobs, stereos, or plastic dashboard toys to their cars. Szlemko found a link between road rage and the number of personalized items on or in people's vehicles. "The number of territory markers predicted road rage better than vehicle value, condition, or any of the things that we normally associate with aggressive driving,' says Szlemko. What's more, only the number of bumper stickers, and not their content, predicted road rage... Szlemko suggests that this territoriality may encourage road rage because drivers are simultaneously in a private space (their car) and a public one (the road).

Indianapolis Art Center Receives New Sound System

Indianapolis-based Klipsch has donated a new state-of-the-art cinema surround speaker system to the Indianapolis Art Center. The "world class" sound system has been installed in the Frank M. Basile Auditorium. It will allow the Art Center to bring more film entertainment to its traditional mix of presentations and demonstrations.
