Bowers Museum to Exhibit China's Terra Cotta Warriors

The Bowers Museum in Santa Ana, Calif. (Orange County), will exhibit the largest display of Chinese Terra Cotta Warriors and related artifacts outside of China. The exhibit, sponsored by Viking River Cruises, opens to the public May 18 and will run for nearly 5 months. The Terra Cotta Army was created for Qin Shi Huang, the first emperor of China, during his reign from 247 B.C. until his death in 210 B.C. After his death he was interred with his clay army and a vast collection of riches. A peasant revolt swept through China and eradicated all traces of his reign, including the tomb; and in 1974, local farmers digging a well came upon the nearly 2,200-year-old archeological treasure.
