Another ballet feast for Beijing in August

Royal Danish Ballet, one of the oldest major ballet companies, will be performing in the National Centre for the Performing Arts during the Olympic Performing Season, bringing another art feast for audience in Beijing, following the performances of other great ballet troupes.

American Ballet Theater Visits Korea in 12 Years

Some 120 dancers and staffs of the American Ballet Theater came to Korea via Incheon International Airport for their performance at Sejong Center for the Performing Arts from July 31 to August 3. The American Ballet Theater, which is called one of the world’s three most renowned ballet companies along with the United Kingdom’s Royal Ballet and Paris Opera Ballet of France, is visiting Korea in 12 years since 1996. Kevin McKenzie, the artistic director of the American Ballet Theater said, “Koreans will have a chance to enjoy outstanding performance of the world’s best dancers.” The American Ballet Theater will perform an opening gala on July 31 and perform “Don Quixote” for three days from August 1. Ballet Oklahoma Announces Season

OKLAHOMA CITY, Aug. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Ballet Oklahoma announced its performances for the 2008-2009 season. The season will begin with a celebration of the newly reinvented Ballet Oklahoma. For one night only, the Company will present "Stars of American Ballet - A Gala Celebration," featuring some of the best ballet talent from across the country including dancers from American Repertory Ballet, Louisville Ballet, Ballet San Jose and more. Sharing the program will be two works by Robert Mills. Ballet Oklahoma will perform his signature work "Still" and a world premier work.

Singapore to launch iPhone 3G on August 22?

Singapore may be another one of the countries set to receive the iPhone 3G on August 22, according to a new report. Late in July Apple said that the iPhone 3G would be released in 20 more countries on August 22 and up to this point 17 countries have been confirmed. A SingTel spokesman has reiterated a statement, first made in June, that SingTel will bring the iPhone 3G to Singapore by the end of the year and the report claims that it has been "seriously looking at launching the iPhone at the end of August or early September." If true it would seem logical for SingTel to launch on August 22 along side other releases.

BEIJING, July 31 (Xinhua) -- Online businesses which make a profit in Beijing will be subject to the government's business-licence regulation from August 1, which would make the national capital the first to pilot the e-commerce regulation in China.

AFI and Beijing Police Confiscate Pirated DVDs

BEIJING – On Monday, Beijing police and representatives from the AFI (American Film Institute) confiscated hundreds of pirated DVDs of American TV series from a store in Chaoyang district of Beijing. Police held the storeowner for investigation, the World Journal reports. According to the police, AFI holds the copyright to those TV series and more and more the police are inviting their reps to join them on such raids, so they can later testify. AFI representatives say that almost all DVDs of American TV series on the market in China are pirated copies.
