10th Pacific Arts Festival officially opened in American Samoa.

Loud applause came from the packed out stadium as American Samoa’s governor, Togiola Tulafono, declared the tenth Festival of Pacific Arts officially open. The Australia Torres Straits delegation led the way around the stadium, the crowds enjoyed the Cook Islands and Tahiti groups’ thumping drums and swaying hips while the New Zealand delegation’s kapahaka group delivered a spine-tingling performance. Each Pacific group had just 3 minutes to give their best performance to the crowd, bef ore they each presented Govenor Tulafono with gifts from their homeland. The group from Samoa wan’t able to stick to the time limit, performing, among a number of items, the crowd-pleasing slapdance and fire dance. After American Samoa’s large Tagaloa creation production, gospel group the Katina Brothers sang the ceremony to a close.

American Ballet Theater Visits Korea in 12 Years

Some 120 dancers and staffs of the American Ballet Theater came to Korea via Incheon International Airport for their performance at Sejong Center for the Performing Arts from July 31 to August 3. The American Ballet Theater, which is called one of the world’s three most renowned ballet companies along with the United Kingdom’s Royal Ballet and Paris Opera Ballet of France, is visiting Korea in 12 years since 1996. Kevin McKenzie, the artistic director of the American Ballet Theater said, “Koreans will have a chance to enjoy outstanding performance of the world’s best dancers.” The American Ballet Theater will perform an opening gala on July 31 and perform “Don Quixote” for three days from August 1. American Airlines Settles Trademark Infringement Lawsuit With Google

July 18, 2008 (FinancialWire) American Airlines Inc., a subsidiary of AMR Corp. (NYSE: AMR) and Google Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG) have settled a trademark-infringement lawsuit by the carrier against the search engine. Terms of the dismissal were not disclosed in court records. In the judgment issued Thursday, U.S. District District Court Judge John McBryde said American will recover nothing from Google. The case centered on sponsored links that Google lists next to search results that it provides to its users. American claimed this practice violates its trademarks when a keyword search is done using the airline s trademarks, such as its name. Shares of AMR Corp. rose $1.09, or 18.73 percent, to close at $6.91, while shares of Google fell $2.16 to close at $533.
